Exciting news, genealogy nerds! Census records are kept private for 72 years, which means the 1950 census records will be available soon. On Friday, to be exact.
What's even more exciting is that the 1950 records have already been digitized and will be fully searchable immediately. So if you want to find out where your mysterious uncle Joe was really living in 1950, this is your chance.
For genealogy fans, this is huge. I met someone in pre-covid times, so more than 2 years ago, who knew the exact date the 1950 census was coming out and had already told her employer that she would be out that day.
Hopefully they'll make it as easily accessible as the 1940 Census, that is to say, you won't need an account with a commercial site like Ancestry.
As a guess, FamilySearch is free to use as long as you are not allergic to Mormons. Wkitree is another free genealogy site, but FamilySearch is where I'd go.
Hell yes!
So I still don't publicly exist.
