Astronomy

My interest in astrophotography is exclusively with Deep Space Objects. These are objects outside the solar system: primarily nebulas, galaxies, star clusters, and comets (which are visible only when they're inside the solar system but spend most of their lives outside the solar system). Most of these pictures were shot through a Skywatcher ED100 APO telescope.

October 3, 2022 — The Andromeda Galaxy, M31, photographed from Palomar Mountain.
July 17, 2020 — Comet Neowise, shot with a normal camera out by Warner Springs.
December 11, 2023 — The Pacman Nebula, NGC 281, photographed from Desert Center with a narrowband filter.
February 12, 2024 — The globular cluster in Serpens, M5, photographed from Desert Center.
December 10, 2023 — The Triangulum Galaxy, M33, photographed from Desert Center. Along with the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy, the Triangulum is the third major member of the Local Group.
November/December, 2022 — The Iris Nebula, NGC 7023, photographed from Desert Center.
December 30, 2018 — Star trails near Lake Henshaw, California.
January 22, 2023 — The Orion Nebula, M42, photographed from Desert Center. The semicircular formation just to the right of center is M43, De Mairan's Nebula, while the blue formation further right is NGC 1977, the Running Man Nebula.
February 20, 2023 — Bode's Galaxy, M81, photographed from near Vidal Junction, California. The smaller galaxy at the right is the Cigar Galaxy, M82.
January 14, 2023 — Comet C/2022 R3 (ZTF), a small comet that made its first appearance in 50,000 years in 2022/23. Photographed near Desert Center.
January 9, 2024 — The Crab Nebula, M1, photographed from Palomar Mountain using a narrowband filter. The Crab is the expanding remnant of a supernova that exploded in 1054.
February 19, 2023 — The Pleiades, M45, photographed from near Vidal Junction, California.
November 11, 2023— The Soul Nebula, IC 1848, photographed from Palomar Mountain. It is a near neighbor of the Heart Nebula.
June 15, 2018 — The Milky Way taken from Plumas National Forest.
April 16, 2023 — The Pinwheel Galaxy, M101, photographed from Desert Center, California
October 8, 2023 — The Wizard Nebula, NGC 7380, photographed from Desert Center.
