Yes. I don't think you can keep out bots and spammers without it.

I hate it but yes.

How about just no comments at all?
Comments are just a gateway drug to Twitter.

Don't I know it!
Connor J Flynn
Yeah. Gotta make it somewhat not resistant. Right?
Douglas Cole
It appears that the early adopters say yes.

I vote for registration, to control the trolling riff-raff, but also to expedite entering comments so I don't have to log in, sort of, each time I want to throw my 1.5 cents in.
Yes, as long as they don't get taken over by lunatic squabbling.

My Votes:
- When people sign up they must provide a working email address, though other users won't see this.
- People can pick their handle names.
- Include ability for users to block other users like Disqus and Coral can do. Without this, on any blog whether on the left or right there are always people who feel they must attack and try to drive out people making comments from the other side. To me, the ability of a user to block another user is an essential feature of a modern commenting system.
- Perhaps just use Disqus. It always seemed fine to me. Coral seems inferior.

Okay, but require that commenters use their "real names".
