Coronavirus Growth in Western Countries: March 1 Update

For God's sake, people, don't let up now. We have a chance to get everyone vaccinated at the same time that COVID-19 cases are declining, and this is a golden opportunity that will happen only once. Let's not mess it up by opening up and ditching our masks too early. Another couple of months is all we need.

Here’s the officially reported coronavirus death toll through March 1. The raw data from Johns Hopkins is here.

Vaccines are happening fast in Indiana.

60 year old plus opened up one week ago.

And today 55 plus opened up.

I was shot last Wednesday and the Mrs. gets hers on Saturday.

The Johnson & Johnson one shot.

The weather has broken and Covid is in retreat. Hooray!

        The pharmacist at Kroger.

And to be honest it made me ill. Flu like symptoms that night and sore for a couple of days.

        Moderna.

I got an email update from my primary care provider that Oregon is doing general signups for shots. I am going to put in fir one, but hopefully CVS Target will come thru for me. My last three flu shots have been there, & my flu shot the year before that in another market.

That's great. Though the only shots I'm eligible for right now are Jim & Beam. Jack & Daniels still waiting for approval.

Well, I signed in to get on the waiting list, in spite of not being in a permitted cohort and surprise! Was told I wasn't eligible. Since there's no way I can be considered an "essential worker", I have no complaints. They're still working on plus-75s here in New Mexico; could be months before my "number" comes up.

Around here we got an email from a local institution, happily informing us to they would be closed this weekend, due to the fact that their employees are getting their second vaccine shots and would be taking the day off. Congratulations to them!

Oh, and what is the institution?

It's the local fu#@ing ICE. CREAM. SHOP. I guess they consider themselves food workers and therefore are essential.

I considered sending them an email, telling them that I wished I could get a vaccine shot but I wasn't lucky enough to make my living scooping ice cream.

We have two states in lower 48 below 10 new cases/day/100K, OR and MO. ND dropped to that level for a day or so, but bounced back up.
VA has been playing catch up in their death count for the past week or so--this is still from the holiday season, so counts have been ca. 150 higher (?) per day. Not sure how that shows up in Johns Hopkins data.
Nine states: RI, CT, NY, NJ, DE, SC GA, FL and TX, are above 25 new cases/day/100k. Looks alike they all may stay that way. SC did have a drop recently, but cases still high.

Oh, Kevin, you are such a liberal. Luckily we have governors like Greg Abbott, who can't wait to 100% open to celebrate our FREEDUMS!!!!!
