Here is tonight's headline in the Washington Post:

The GOP nominee has grown increasingly upset about Kamala Harris’s surging poll numbers and media coverage since replacing Joe Biden on the ticket.

Poor baby. There's more, of course:

“It’s unfair that I beat him and now I have to beat her, too,” Trump told an ally in a phone call last weekend.... He has grown annoyed with some of the media focus on his campaign staff.... He has asked why Harris is raising so much more money than him, people familiar with the comments say. Trump has also repeatedly raised the large crowds that Harris is getting compared with Biden, people who have spoken to him said.

Awww. And here's the pièce de résistance. It's about Trump's ill-fated appearance before a group of Black journalists last week:

He did not know that Harris was not going to appear, that the journalists were going to ask such tough questions and that there would be a fact-checking component to the event, one person who spoke with him about it said.

He didn't know there would be tough questions. What a petulant little prick. How does anyone put up with him?

You know, I realize Trump's background was litigated thoroughly in 2016, but if there's a debate I sure wish Kamala Harris would bring it up again. I mean, this is a guy who was brought up as a spoiled rich kid attending a string of private schools and then avoiding Vietnam because of bone spurs that mysteriously appeared in his heels. His millionaire father installed him as president of the family real estate business and bankrolled his ventures, but within a few years he blew it all by wildly mismanaging a football team, the Plaza Hotel, the Eastern Shuttle, a string of casinos, and more. He was forced into multiple bankruptcy proceedings and his banks put him on a strict allowance until he clawed his way barely back to solvency—leaving behind a trail of unpaid bills and fleeced mom-and-pop investors. Finally he inherited more money when his father died and has lived in luxury ever since. He has a cook to prepare his meals, a butler to serve them, servants to make his bed, a chauffeur to drive him around, and personal flight attendants to fetch him Diet Cokes on his plane. His golf courses are money losers, his "charitable foundation" was shut down for fraud, Trump University was a con, he owes nearly $100 million to a woman he sexually assaulted, and he owes $500 million to the state of New York for systematically lying to banks about his wealth. Now he wants to be president again.

Seriously?

    Yes, "seriously". He has one cook, one butler, and one chauffeur as a rich private citizen; his limo can't run red lights, nor can his plane close an airport for him to land (except in an emergency as could a lowly Piper Cub). He's just a run-of-the-mill rich -- but, really, not THAT rich -- old guy with ED.

    As President he had a whole squad of cooks, three or four butlers and an entire twenty-odd person team of Heavies to drive him around in a rubber-tired tank.

    He was SOME-body.

    He's too lazy to campaign, even though winning is his only chance of avoiding jail. But I'm starting to think he knows winning is not his best strategy. He will lose the election then throw the country into a massive meltdown as his followers screw up the vote counting, set militias loose, riot, launch legal challenges. Post election chaos is his game.

      It is probably too much to say he doesn't try to win the elections, but it is certainly true that he plans for post-elections "chaos", i.e. large scale violence and another coup attempt (better organized this time).

        Let's be clear, the GOP is planning chaos all around: pre-elections, voting-day, and post-elections.

        The Democrats need to be ready with an army of lawyers to watch out for voter intimidation, and all sorts of fraudulent actions by the GOP.

          Lawyers are not enough to stop violence, and certainly after the elections there will be a lot of it (unless he loses by a large margin).
          Until the elections they may try to avoid violence to avoid frightening voters.

      oh i think campaigning is what he enjoys. crowds of people wearing red hats and cheering his every word no matter how ridiculous. on the other hand, dozing donnie is 78 years old and not exactly in the best of shape even taking his age into consideration. it takes stamina to campaign and stamina he ain't got. factor in getting creased by a bullet and he can't be all that anxious to hit the proverbial trail. i think he's got one event this entire week, in montana of all places.

    But sowing chaos is really nothing more than a consolation prize, similar to what he did in 2020. I don't think that is enough. SCOTUS really did him a solid with their "America has a king" ruling, but it might not dispell all his legal troubles if he is not president. And without being president he won't have enough things of value he can give rich cronies and foreign governments to escape bankruptcy.

    He really needs to win. The question is how far will the people who actually know what they are doing go? And how far will they have to go? I'm not going to make any predictions.

    As potentially huge as the Harris wave is looking, is it so big these corupt right wing sociopaths wouldn't dare try to defy it? Buckle up.

          1. Insisting that inflation is solely due to the covid rescue bills and missing that covid supply chain havoc was the primary cause. This enables Trump to hang *any* economic issue as a lodestone around the democrats.
          2. Missing the point that Trumps 'Stop the Steal' started before the votes were even finished counting. This is all the evidence you need to know this this was a lie. Not only was there no evidence of fraud, but the lie started before any evidence could even be generated.
          3. That Trump violated his oath of office before the very eyes of the American people. In the oath it says, "...and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution..." which is what he deliberately did not do for more than 3 hours as the capital was stormed by his followers who were attempting to stop lawmakers from executing the transfer of power as laid out in the constitution.

          Your average American does not know that these things are easily verifiable facts.

    the first time I hard him I thought - "He's the guy in everyone's 8th or 9th grade classroom. Believes he knows everything about everything except he knows nothing. Like Vinnie Barbarino or The Fonz, except without the class. At the 5th or 10th reunion you hear is flipping burgers somewhere.

    The only difference is Trump's daddy had a couple hundred $million

You know, that women are secondary, inferior, and to be treated as objects, that non-White people are secondary, inferior, lazy but also job-stealing, and should know their proper place, and that immigrants are diseased criminals and should all be deported, even if they were born here. And that it should be okay to say these things out loud and proud, and nobody should be allowed to say you shouldn't!

    "He'll hurt the people who should be hurt." That's enough for them. That he's rich is just proof he's right.

    Maybe his failures and his meanness and greed balance each other out in his supporters' minds. As in, someone who bankrupts a casino can't be all bad. Also, surely someone so cruel and rapacious is successful.

    Now inquisitive minds are asking where his campaign money is going, since it's not being spent on ads whether in social or classic media. But those who gave the money will be rapturous if it was misused: good Lord what a great cheat. Someone like that can impossibly fail.

    As for unfair, everything always is. But this time he was actually sure the cookie was on his plate, and it was snatched away.

    What is really bothering him right now is that he isn't the center of media attention as they have a new shiny object to focus on. The one thing we know about Trump is that it is all about him, nobody else matters. It would be refreshing if when the media does start to revolve around Trump again (which it will) it would be to point put that his "policy" ideas are inflationary and would blow massive holes in the budget, but the MSM doesn't do policy.

    One thing that always amazes me about Trump and that I don't think gets enough attention, is that he is the only adult I can think of who is constantly talking about how unfair things are for him. I mean he literally says something is unfair to him every time he opens his mouth. This is what 8-year-olds do. Adults don't whine about how unfair everything is. They deal with it.

      "That's not fair!" was the go-to response from the most difficult student I ever dealt with in my teaching career. She used it every time I told her something that she didn't want to hear, including that the deadline for her term paper would be the same as for everyone else in the class. I think that for her and for Trump, "fair" is an Inigo Montoya situation: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

      The Electoral College & 3/5 rule combined were both designed to be undemocratic & bolstered the influence & fortunes of the South & its "Founding Fathers." Using the numbers of non-voting Native Americans; enslaved Blacks to unjustly empower one area has been replaced by use of longtime gerrymandering, literally suppression, & intimidation - I wonder how long it will take to eliminate either the EC or those other factors, even the further damage done by Roberts' decision to gut the essential part of the Voting Rights Act.

    With candidates' military service suddenly an issue again this week, I think this story from the NY Times in 2018 is relevant again. The country really needs to hear more about it.

    In the fall of 1968, Donald J. Trump received a timely diagnosis of bone spurs in his heels that led to his medical exemption from the military during Vietnam.

    For 50 years, the details of how the exemption came about, and who made the diagnosis, have remained a mystery, with Mr. Trump himself saying during the presidential campaign that he could not recall who had signed off on the medical documentation.

    Now a possible explanation has emerged about the documentation. It involves a foot doctor in Queens who rented his office from Mr. Trump’s father, Fred C. Trump, and a suggestion that the diagnosis was granted as a courtesy to the elder Mr. Trump.

    The podiatrist, Dr. Larry Braunstein, died in 2007. But his daughters say their father often told the story of coming to the aid of a young Mr. Trump during the Vietnam War as a favor to his father.

    “I know it was a favor,” said one daughter, Dr. Elysa Braunstein, 56, who along with her sister, Sharon Kessel, 53, shared the family’s account for the first time publicly when contacted by The New York Times.

    Elysa Braunstein said the implication from her father was that Mr. Trump did not have a disqualifying foot ailment. “But did he examine him? I don’t know,” she said.

    Sounds a helluva lot more incriminating than anything I've heard about Tim Walz.

    A reminder to Don-old: you only ran against Biden once, and he beat you. Likely would have beaten you again, too, but it's even more likely that Harris beats you.

    Trump has won exactly one election in his life. And that was a fluke.

    Something must be physically wrong with Trump. Nothing's preventing him from getting out on the campaign trail. Instead, he's scheduled a "news conference" from Mar a Lago and had been sitting at home for a week, now.

    Does he have COVID?

    When Il Duce gets back onto the campaign (after his sabbatical or mental breakdown week), it would seem appropriate for Walz to trail him, just like JD is trailing Harris/Walz this week. That would be a good time to reintroduce the Access Hollywood tapes, "captain bone spurs", and the John Kelly "suckers and losers" statements.

    I do hope that whoever has access to the Apprentice tapes of that orange shit stain saying the "N" word publishes it before November.

    OT: Are you paying attention to Ukraine's incursion into Russian territory north of Sumy? This appears to be a very big deal. They're currently fighting 30KM inside of Russia!

      also saw an article about how russian rail system is on the verge of collapse becuse they can't get replacement parts due to sanctions, which i imagine will be dissastrous for their military logistics. often things happen slowly then all at once as they say, and i'm hoping the failure of their invasion will be one of those things.

You forgot that his inheritance involved a fraudulent scheme on property valuation that when discovered led his sister stepping down as a federal judge. The family avoided criminal prosecution because the statute of limitations had run out.

      Exactly--Trump was speaking at the National Association of Black Journalists, where he appeared to not understand that Harris is Black (and also presumably understands that she is not a journalist), so it's unclear why he would make the connection in the first place.

      It's almost as if Trump is some sort of bullshitting dummy who is delusional/senile to boot.
