Joe Biden doesn’t need to drop out of the race. He needs to resign.

Quite a few people have called for Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race, but I'm surprised that so few have taken the logical next step: urging him to resign immediately.

At the risk of being overly earnest, this is not—or shouldn't be—a matter of partisan politics. It's not about who's most likely to beat Trump in November. It's about whether Biden is mentally fit to be president. On that score, recent reporting has done nothing but confirm the evidence of our own eyes and ears from last Thursday: obviously he's not. Even if, optimistically, he only performs that badly for a few hours once a week, it's simply not safe to have a commander-in-chief with that kind of cognitive deficit.

So he needs to leave the Oval Office and let Kamala Harris take over. It doesn't matter if you like Harris or not. She's plainly fit for the office, and that's all that counts right now. November's election is the time to choose candidates based on whether you like them or not.

There's no telling how Biden's resignation would affect either the race in general or Donald Trump's chances of winning reelection, but that's not what should be guiding us. Biden's fitness is. He needs to resign.

    Read the bloody transcript!!!

How Biden "looked" is irrelevant - his actual words were 100% great!

The American people require him to DO THE JOB - not to look great while doing it.

The Democratic Party leadership, the presidential primary candidates who endorsed Biden before the Super Tuesday primaries, and the liberal pundits who endorsed Biden in 2020 are partly responsible for the crisis of an acting president who is not mentally fit to be Commander In Chief or their party's presidential candidate in 2024. Was Biden even fit in 2020 to become president? These enablers of a senile president were also behind Biden's policies for Ukraine joining NATO and unconditionally supporting Israel's war on Gaza. None of them are mentally fit.

if you think Biden shouldn't run, this is the logical conclusion.

but as I mentioned in and earlier post, I'd be good with a "Weekend at Bernie's" scenario if that kept Trump out of the office.

So which Joe Biden shows up at work on a given day? Is he guaranteed to be cognitively fit for office in a crisis each and every time, because that’s what this is about: National Security!

An incumbent President Harris will have the best chance of beating Trump in November of all the prospective candidates. President Harris will also have access to the Biden/Harris campaign war chest as well.

    So, Biden resigns.

Mike Johnson is now second in line to the Presidency.

The GOP Congress refuses to confirm a VP for Harris.

I can't think of a more volatile and dangerous situation for new President Harris. It would make appearing in public a risk to her life.

That won't happen. He has the same stubborn selfishness as Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He is said to believe he is the only one who can beat Trump. Right now, he's the only one who can't.

There are two major domains where the public should be knowledgeable in assessing the mental state of our two political candidates: (1) indications of dementia or other serious disorder and (2) indications of psychopathology that would be problematic for a president of the United States. My Ph.D. in psychology is in personality science (touching on these areas but there are top researchers who are experts in each of the specific domains of clinical psychology/psychiatry/gerontology relevant here). Can someone tell me if relevant top experts in these domains, who would be very informative to the public, are being consulted and interviewed to educate the public (and journalists/bloggers) on these relevant topics? And, if not, why not? Data/ evidence/ expertise here on this important topic is a good thing, informative, and journalism worthy. [Beyond the politics, this is useful information for most families to consider]. I believe that in any expert-led systematic comparison of data (over time) between Biden and Trump, most such experts would raise many more serious issues for Trump than Biden in both of these domains of cognitive/mental/psychological functioning and point to indicators we should be aware of that would predict behaviors that could be serious threats for our nation.
