When I teach first-year calculus, I tell students a practical rule: Any time a politician, military leader, or business leader talks about the second derivative, they are trying to mislead you.
Or in non-calculus terms: If something bad continues to increase, but is increasing more slowly than in the past, that is *not* good news.

"decrease" is not really a good way to describe "did not set a record". I get your point but it is rather out of context. Don't you find it a bit astounding to have 15 1/2 *months* with consecutive daily records?

Almost is not good enough; we need to have the hottest oceans in the world -- the greatest -- in history. It's hot or not, not almost.

[Paris Hilton pointing to 2023 record] "Now that's hot."

It is becoming pretty clear to me that most of the climate scientists have actually been optimists. We are going to blow by 3C. Humans are actually no smarter than wine yeast.

Some of the Atlantic Ocean's heat dissipates into hurricanes. A cat 5 storm direct hit on Tallahassee might increase friction with the even hotter tempers of Florida.
