Coronavirus Growth in Western Countries: April 15 Update

France has joined the 100,000 club. Argentina has begun what looks like a huge surge. Italy, Sweden, and Germany all look like they're starting to rise again too. All things considered, the US looks to be in relatively good shape at the moment. Our big task now is to convince Republicans to get vaccinated.

Here’s the officially reported coronavirus death toll through April 15. The raw data from Johns Hopkins is here.

Right now it seems like India is experiencing a big spike in cases. I could see this being extremely problematic in the future. Considering their population their infection rate is still relatively low, but I understand that lack of testing might be contributing to that statistic. With its gigantic population I would think that if things go really bad there it will be a major problem for the word as there are bound to be a large number of variants coming out if that happens.

For cases in the US (new cases/day/100K)

LA got back out of the pool, and WY waded in (10 or less). No other major shifts...

    Raw numbers
MI squarely in the lead (8 to 9K)
FL passing NY (ca. 7K each)
    PA right behind those (6K)
NJ fallen back, and IL and TX coming up (4K)
and the leading peloton: CA, NC, CO, MA, OH and sometimes MN (2 to 2.5K)

That ranking makes the GQP's taunts of "Whitmer, bad; De Santis, good" all the more puzzling.

      How about we #liberateflorida?

It's just politics to them. Something I bring up time after time. I bitch slammed a bunch of dumb contards who criticized a doctor study that saw improvement using low dose progesterone cream on Covid patients. They ignorantly called it a female hormone and ripped the study. It was on this rediculous site called 100% Fed up or some jazz. They met my rath of what a bunch of morons they are, bunch of loser fbombs. Of course old men with covid, it would probably help. I am in my 40's and supplement with 10mg progesterone cream and 50 mg preg every other day. What happened?? Estrogen low side of normal, DHT normal and Test up 18% since I started a year ago. Conservatives are idiots.

Just got back from being meritoriously stabbed with my first dose of Pfizer.

Arm is a likely achey, but that may as well be from the stabbing.

The big question, which can't be known yet, is whether the vaccine (or the body's response to the infection itself) offers long term immunity, or just temporary protection as the virus continues to evolve. If it does, everything will sort itself out eventually, when we will have enough people who have either tested positive or received the Covid vaccine to create herd immunity.

If it offers only seasonal protection, and Covid becomes more like the flu, returning in a different variant every year, then we will just have to learn to live with Covid, accepting that people get sick and die as a natural part of life. None of us is immortal. Certainly not the sick and elderly who are Covid's most vulnerable targets. We can't keep hiding for the rest of our lives. One way or another, we need to move on from this lockdown. It is unsustainable.
