We passed another grim milestone on Friday: it was our first day with more than 5,000 deaths reported. Here’s the officially reported coronavirus death toll through February 12. The raw data from Johns Hopkins is here.

I think the spike in death count is from Ohio adding about 2500 deaths (out of about 4000 total) that were previously misreported. See https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/12/world/Ohio-Covid-deaths.html
CovidTrackingProject does a good job of noting data dumps too (under The Data)--but they will be closing up shop at the end of the month.

They are differing to the CDC, but the CDC site is..sluggish.
CovidActNow does a nice job of mapping the data, but don't explain data dumps. However, it does include vaccinations.
Note: Ohio has a Reublican governor, & said state* hid mortality data. Yet KKKlay Travis declined to call him out, & in contravention of the OutKuck response to Andrew Cuomo's latest Coronabro foofaraw.
Yeah my parents are getting their second dose of vaccine today, boo mother nature decided to give us freezing rain and sleet.
Also boo vaccine shortages persist in the DC area as everyone is desperate to get the vaccine far in excess of the allotments received. You can sense the frustration in folks who post to the nextdoor website.
Nextdoor in Manhattan's Upper West Side is very similar.
