Crime is way down everywhere

The FBI released crime figures yesterday for Q1, and as expected, crime was down considerably everywhere:

Overall, violent crime was down 15.2%. Murder was down 26.4%. Overall property crime was down 15.1%.  Crime was down by double digits or more in every single category and in every region of the country.

I don't want to pretend this is all Joe Biden's doing. Nevertheless, the press dedicated a lot of time and space to crime when it went up, and you'd think they could spare a few column inches on their front pages when it's plummeting.

Crime is plummeting across the US. But this Mom of twins in Akron isn't feeling safer. And thats a problem for Joe Biden.

Let's get the story from the NYT....

The bunker isn't deep enough she screamed at her husband. Harried, he wiped his brow and got back to it.

Later after patrol, he was down twenty-two rounds, but the neighbor was minus two pets.

Yes, could be. But I didn’t recognize the poster as a regular and nowadays it’s hard to tell when people are being sarcastic unless you have some experience with them.

Joe Biden's Justice Department just convicted his son Hunter. Voters in Bucks County are more convinced than ever that Justice has been weaponized.

i'm curious. what does joe biden have to do with the job the local police or prosecutor is doing in akron, ohio? that's the thing. crime is mostly a local issue dealt with mostly by local officials, not the president and not congress.

Federal supports such as SNAP and Medicaid probably help to hold the crime rate down. However, those supports have not changed significantly in quite a while so they probably don't explain changes in the crime rate year over year.

I thought everyone knew the rules of journalism:
    1) If it bleeds, it leads.
    2) Good news is no news.

As @mudwall noted, what does Biden have to do with the crime rates at all?

My question though is whether you should be comparing the rates to a year ago or to pre-pandemic levels/trends. Not that voters scared by whatever they just read in Nextdoor will care, but I think it would be more illuminating...

Sure, but this is hilarious. Gun nuts gotta shoot! It’s especially funny when the kill each other!

A teenager who tried to return a malfunctioning replica gun that shoots plastic projectiles to a sporting goods store in Washington state was shot to death by an off-duty security guard who believed the boy was holding a real gun and planned to rob the business, according to authorities.

The man arrested in the killing, 51-year-old Aaron Myers, told police that he was not working at the time he shot and killed Hazrat Ali Rohani, who was returning a malfunctioning airsoft gun to the Big 5 store in Renton. But he had offered to keep watch due to alleged rising crime in the area.
