Donald Trump's agenda is taking shape. Apparently he plans to ditch the post office, deregulate the banks, ban polio vaccines, bomb Iran, eliminate daylight saving time, and gut the FBI. I don't really remember any of that stuff from the campaign, but I guess it must have been what we all voted for.¹
Good times are coming, my friends. Good times.
¹Well, 29.7% of us, anyway.
Agreed that is a horrible bundle. However, so far Trump's popularity is not declining. It seems the GOP likes what they see, so far...
Two points:
1) He's going to be disruptive for sure, but organizational inertia (and what's left of guardrails) means not much is going to get done. But he'll bluster his way any way
2) Many people voted for him without thinking through his empty promises. Once he cannot deliver his popularity will wane and he'll change the subject to something else
“ Many people voted for him without thinking through his empty promises”
Then what did they vote for?
His empty promises.
+1 and bs.
The permission to be hateful assholes and their worst awful shitty selves towards the particular group they hate.
That too.
+10,000
ditto.
"Then what did they vote for?"
All their sunk costs in flags and flair.
I'm old enough to remember Richard Nixon. He won in a landslide in 1972 (a real one, not Trump's 1.5% version). Two years later you couldn't find anyone who voted for him.
If Trump does the things he says he's going to do, we'll be in a recession by the end of 2025. Possibly a deep one. Let's see how many of those white working class people are happy with him when they're unemployed.
But it won’t be Trum’s fault. He can do no harm. Have you learned nothing? It will be the fault of their favorite hated group. It always is.
Exactly. Those of us in the reality-based community keep repeating that the worse things get the better, because those who even considered voting for Trump will finally get it. Hah!
So much has changed since Nixon. Now the GOP in the Senate and House would rally around him, and the press would slam the investigation as partisan. The base would rise up in anger that Democrats would seize on a mere campaign strategy when they are un-American. Nixon would be a working-class hero.
What about the tariffs and deporting 10 million people after holding them in concentration camps?
Your friendly reminder that anyone sent to the camps who's not a foreign citizen can't be deported so will languish in the camps until the Trumpies come up with some kind of final solution to the problem.
And scatter a paper blizzard of tariff orders.
Oh, and bringing down all those prices, particularly grocery? Nope! "Very hard to do; won't do it."
Americans (not me! I voted Harris/Walz!) have bought themselves an empty egg carton. And I get to suffer along with the 'guilty.'
Tax breaks and deregulation.
I’m looking forward to this continuing validation of my cynicism. My contempt for America and my so called fellow citizens is fully justified. Every bad thing I imagined about them is confirmed! Hilarious 😆
Let them suffer.
This won’t work.

You do not want a worker centered Democratic Party. It wouldn’t achieve anything you want. And they don’t want you in their business.
What sort of gibberish are you saying?
You have a link in there, but nothing responds to any of it.
So, how does that agenda measure up to this prediction?
https://jabberwocking.com/a-realistic-look-at-a-second-trump-term/
implying roughly 260 million people eligible to vote. And something like 153 million actually voted. So, how does one count that “silent plurality” 🙂 who didn’t vote? With the 29.7% who voted for Trump, or WTH the < 29.7% who voted for Harris?
I count them as irrelevant. I see no need to address their concerns because they don’t have any.

Am a one-handed typist for a while 🙁
Also proposing abolishing the FDIC as part of 'deregulation'. Let the good times roll.
"Make 1750 great again, Donald"-- wasn't that the big MAGA chant? No government postal service, vaccination barely in its infancy, no FBI, no DST, almost no government regulation, burn all the fossil fuels you want. Well okay so there was a king, but you can't have everything you know.
Having a king is a feature for this crowd. As long as that king is Donald Trump of course.
*They'd* love it but *he'd* absolutely hate being an actual king-- every second of their day is scheduled out for years, full of ceremonial things they can't get out of and papers they have to sign. Too much like work for Donald's taste.
I'm actually in favor of one of those things: eliminating daylight saving time. Should I be worried about myself, or did the Donald accidentally strike it right for once?
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
Really? Love DST hate EST. Make it permanent.
What conservatism wants is failure for everyone else and free money for themselves. That's what they're all so proud of.
Let's see what he says next week. So far, the only thing I am counting on from Trump's second term is a tax cut for the wealthy, lots of unfocused blather which may or may not actually translate into policy, and angry/distateful buffoonery.
Since much of it will involve liberal tears, they will
be fine with suffering for their addiction.
He promised a Trump Show. So far he is delivering, details is for little people. All this stuff he says is to get headlines, nothing less, nothing more. He already backtracked on inflation, his prior Ukraine stand is wavering, his anti immigration plan was always a mirage, so he needs to keep the rubes entertained. Except for the FBI (who deserve what’s coming to them), none of the things mentioned will come close to a fruition, yet it gets attention as part of the show.
Yeah… because the real action is the grift, corruption, looting, and pillaging.
The more everything around him is a shitshow, the more everybody has to focus on him and the more national life becomes that Donald Show. So he doesn't mind if the House and the entire executive branch are tied up in knots-- wants it that way, really-- as long as he can browbeat them into delivering one or two things he really wants.
And the chaos around him is just exactly the distraction he and a few key hangers-on need to grift off their positions and to loot the nation on a scale so vast it'll be unimaginable.
Spot on! Kung Doosh is King Thief
Daylight or Standard?
I'd prefer permanent Daylight. In Portland, OR, staying on Standard means sunrise would be at 4:22 am on summer solstice. I'm not liking that thought.
Ask and you shall receive....
Oh you forgot bombing Mexico too!
Article I, Section 8:
"The Congress shall have Power...To establish Post Offices and Post Roads."
Unfortunately that language says Congress "has the power" to establish, but doesn't mandate that the power be executed.
FACE IT. Trump wants to destroy this nation. For me, one of the most significant indicators of that was Trump hugging and kissing the flag. You only do that if you have contempt for it and what it stands for. And the cynical attitude that a sociopathic con man has towards his marks. It all fits.
As far as he understands the world, the only point of power and position is self-aggrandizement. That's all there is. And the world of people and things, for him, is zero-sum, not additive or multiplicative or cooperative-- whatever anyone else gains is something he has necessarily lost, by definition.
Therefore, whatever he gains power over or authority in, he must suck dry. So ETTD.
(No idea whether Wilson worked out the logic in these terms, but it's what fits.)
