Friday Cat Blogging – 25 August 2023

This is Hilbert, rolling around in the dirt in the front yard. You would hardly believe how filthy he gets when he does this. Luckily, if I pick him up and place him on the grass he's happy to roll around there too, and that cleans off all the dirt.

I am currently without-feline, but a good friend has been traveling a lot, and I've been cat sitting.

Timeshare Kitty, as we've started calling him, is a remarkably effective dust mop.

I have some shelving in the kitchen that is really hard to clean behind, because they need to be seismically anchored. Timeshare Kitty can squeeze back there, though, and has mopped out filth that I don't like to think about.

I've fantasized about using him as a dust mop on the lights on the ceiling, but that probably would not work nearly as well.

The grass! What a concept! I had always assumed that a cat would clean the dirt off by rubbing it against the pantlegs of his convenient human.

And speaking of getting dirty... one of my former cats, deceased as of January this year (sniff), came in once totally covered with dirt, leaves, dead grass, and twigs. Dust puffed off him like Pigpen as he plodded along and when he flopped over onto his side on the floor. As he lay there, a spider crawled out of his fur and made its escape.
