Friday Cat Blogging – 25 February 2022

Charlie, like most cats, adores it when we change the bedsheets. He zooms around as we wave the sheets over his head and attacks anything that comes his way. In this photo he is just about to pounce on something, but I don't know what. Apparently I stopped taking pictures before he made his move.

Cats don't need actual prey - just movement, shadows & imagination - to practice hunting skills. When the temperature reached the seventies, my little tortoiseshell raced into action, chasing leaves, until she caught one, then a second, & tried to eat both. Good exercise without a sacrificial bird.

My elderly tiny black cat, when she was younger, used to take hunting practice a little further. At bedtime, she would jump under the covers as I turned off the lights and went to bed. She would “attack” (not hurt me) one of my hands, which would wrestle with her as she purred and went in for the kill. We would do this until we both eventually fell asleep. I miss that.

A cat I used to have just loved to be made into the bed whenever I changed the sheets. He'd get covered by the fitted sheet, attack my touches from above, then crawl out and place himself on top of the sheet. Repeat with upper sheet and then blanket and bedspread. We both looked forward to re-making the bed.
