Half a dozen things Trump has said lately

Just in the past few days, Donald Trump has said the following:

  • Billionaires can trust him to keep their taxes low.
  • Joe Biden was probably jacked on cocaine during his State of the Union address.
  • Ukraine should just give Russia the territory it wants.
  • I'm gonna keep smearing the judge's daughter even if I go to jail for it.
  • On Monday I'm going to betray all the pro-lifers who have supported me. But they should vote for me anyway.
  • We need more immigrants from nice countries like Denmark.

Remember back during the Trump presidency, when every day was like this? You can't wait for life to be like that again, can you?

You are speaking of the American Nelson Mandela. Or at least that's what Former Sir called himself.

I think they should take him at his word and put him in jail for 27 years.

I've followed Trump for years, and more closely since 2021, and my impression is that he is more detached from reality than before.
Apocalyptic pronouncements (“We won't have a country anymore” if we lose in 2024)
Superlatives everywhere ("NOVEMBER 5TH WILL BE THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY IN THE HISTORY OF OUR NATION!")
It feels like he's transitioned from con man to wobbly-minded con man. Like an old comedian, just re-using his old tricks, unable to come up with anything fresh.
I think he's getting tired. He'll struggle to keep up appearances, and succeed for a while, but there's a good chance he pulls back and lets surrogates campaign in his stead. He hates sharing the limelight, so if that happens, you know he's losing his grip.

he's also transitioned from con man to con man on the verge of bankruptcy and imprisonment if he loses, so his detachment from reality and apocalyptic statements are also driven by that fear.

I've followed Trump for years, and my impression is that he is more detached from reality than before, which begs the question: How does one stay attached to reality?

Here's a hint: watch how President Biden responds when someone disagrees with him. He may not agree, but he listens. He invariably gives the impression that he's genuinely trying to understand. Whether he agrees or not, he's learning ... about reality ... and that is how one stays attached to reality, which begs the question: How does one detach from reality?

His predecessor invariably says, in word or in deed, "I'm right, you're wrong, and this conversation is over." Each iteration is one more step away from reality.

Should we even expect him to? He's got a rather serious psychological disorder that includes some degree of psychosis, his wealth has always insulated him from the consequences of his actions -- at least, perhaps, until now -- so he's been encouraged in that mindset his entire life, and it's almost certain his family history of AD is beginning to catch up with him. I think it's more a question of WHETHER he could stay attached to reality even if he wanted to.

This could be. But I see more the Karl Rove handbook: accuse your opponent of all your faults. Joe will end democracy and the US. Joe is the criminal. Joe will throw granny from the train.
He realizes that the media won't spend time calling him a liar, as the media (in general) want a horserace to cover more than anything (and want TFG back in power for ratings).

"the media" has been calling him a liar for years. you might recall the organization that tracked some 30,000 of them during his administration. if you think they've suddenly stopped, you're either watching faux or not paying attention.

""the media" has been calling him a liar for years. ..."

That is not enough. When the media reports that "Trump says X", they effectively imply that this is a significant piece of information, which is false in most of the cases. This way they mislead listeners/readers to take what Trump says seriously.

In most of the cases they could easily add "this is contradicted by what he said at this occasion and that occasion and the other occasion", but in general they don't. A listener/reader that doesn't pay much attention can get the impression that he is reasonably honest and reliable.

They also skip the continuous stream of completely deranged messages that he keeps sending out. If Biden sent out a message that is 0.001 as deranged as Trump daily output, that would be the front page everywhere. But Trmup gets away with it.

You're right, I absolutely can't wait for my life to be like that again. I'm also the CEO of just about any major media outlet, protected from negative fallout by my wealth, and just hungry for the content and clicks!

There probably aren't four people in Denmark who would vote for Donald Trump.

So, he's not wrong about everything, they are a nice country.

"Oh he wouldn't REALLY do anything like that! And he doesn't mean those things LITERALLY. It's just his sense of humor! I don't see what everyone's getting all worked up about -- they're just haters. And besides, the REAL problems are all those lazy welfare moochers in the cities, and those immigrants FLOODING across our border and stealing our jobs and poisoning the blood of our nation! And those trans-whatevers, GROOMING our children in the SCHOOLS!! Why don't people worry about THAT instead of some harmless little joke?"

  6. mudwall jackson

if he wants more people from "nice" countries to immigrate here, he shouldn't run for president. it does nothing for our image abroad to have a lunatic as a major candidate for the highest office in the land.
