Health update

I walked about 15 feet today. Woo hoo!

The doctors are getting eager to kick me out, but I'm a little reluctant. Nor am I excited about moving to a skilled nursing facility for a week. At this point, I think I'm going to bargain for a Sunday or Monday release, at which point I hope to be able to hobble around for 50 feet or so.

Call it a week in Rehab (at a skilled nursing facility), it sounds better.

Best of luck and hope your get back to your cats real soon.

My Mom had several stays at Kaiser referred SNF's. Overall, as a 40-year member of Kaiser I am a fan, with the exception of the SNF's in the OC. She picked up several bugs and her care was passable at best. I am hoping that you will be able to go home and bypass the SNF all together - but your doctors might not view that as the best interim option. So.....a week is doable. I am so happy you are on the upswing and posting on a regular basis. We need you to help us cope with and understand the political and economic uncertainty.

I vote for the SNF over going home...I am sure there will be physical threapists there to work on you, to set you up for moving forward in your life.

I had no faith in physical therapists, or more importantly, I had little knowledge, but when my hip went very bad, my orthopedic surgeon insisted I first go to physical therapist....astonishingly, smart me, knew nothing...these people were magicians...I learned so much and avoided a first major surgery.

I sense that you may have to learn to breath again...and how to integrate this into your life...you may think this automatic, but I believe you will learn a lot at a SNF, but also, establish a stronger foundation for your return to your home. Best Wishes, Me

I would be most worried about bugs, whether in the hospital or SNF (particularly the SNF). Last thing you need right now. Go home when you're feeling safe. The cats will help you heal.

Tell your Docs you do not feel safe leaving the hospital. It is unlikely they will transfer you as long as you insist you do not feel safe.
