    KD-
It's been too long since your last post, and I(we) fear the worst
Having seen relatives go through similar things makes this all the more painful for me. Like everyone else here I wish you good health and as good a recovery as can possibly be expected for you.
If, however, it is "time" I wish for YOU the same thing that my Dad wished for my Mom. May your journey be pain free, and your memories clear! You have brought MORE joy to others than you received. Nothing in this life on earth is better than going when it's your time, with the knowledge that you brought to others joy, and happiness.
Peace brother! I pray for your return but I am prepared for the worst

I'm right there with you. I sat in the ICU with my wife for 10 days last August. We managed to get her home - to die. It's a really hard time for both of them right now. However it goes, I have so enjoyed Kevin's thoughtful posts, cat pix, and astrophotography. Hoping to read more, but i understand if it's time to go.

Still trying to hold onto all hope & faith, returning multiple times daily & putting other things on hold - it's difficult to concentrate on necessary matters, but better than waiting fior each new trash talk from trump, musk, or Vance.

May Kevin & Marian remain strong while his fight for life continues.

I am surprised at the emotion i am having right now. i don't know Kevin. I'm just a faithful reader and poster. But he's become part of my life. i really hope he recovers. I will accept whatever comes to pass though. What else can I do?

A reader since Calpundit days. Want to express my respect, affection and gratitude to Kevin for always being there with a reliably interesting and thoughtful take on things. Hope to see more posts soon!

Does anyone remember where Kevin lives? It might be morbid, but it would be worth checking the local obituaries.

    1. KawSunflower

I tried that during his previous silence, but found nothing. And obits are often delayed by either the family, or by newspapers not publishing them on a daily basis. Can't remember the town, but believe it's in Orange County, & other readers who know him personally could check netter.

        1. KawSunflower

I believe that's one i checked - but I'd rather hear from Marian on jabberwocking, or whatever they may have arranged. Still not ready for the worst.

I asked to delete! So long I didn't see the answer from kylemeister, either.

And was told I can't reply to an "unapproved" comment- yet it was posted. Really perplexing responses.

If you are here reading this, you know and share Kevin's passion for data, accuracy, and sourcing. In that spirit, I share the following posts with the caveat that they could prove to be wrong, though I fear that they are not.

A Bluesky account whose post history I have reviewed and which to my eyes gives every appearance of bring an organic, human account has indicated that Kevin, who she names as her older brother-in-law, passed this weekend.

    In a March 7th post, @lonelydoll.bsky.social posted:

"Kevin (cuñato) isn’t expected to make it through the coming weekend.

Prof is going to be with him now at Kaiser, though last I was told he was under sedation."

    Then, on March 8th:

"Mi cuñato is gone. Several of you may know him. He was a Dem blogger that wrote for Political Animal and Mother Jones. The guy that started Friday Cat-Blogging, Kevin Drum.

    My partner’s older brother.

    Bless you, Kevin 🐈 🪽 🏵️"

There is still, to my knowledge, no official word. But I did want to share this. We may all hope and/or pray that it is wrong or false, though I seriously doubt that it is.

Thank you for posting this. That certainly appears to be real. There is far more in the universe we do not know than that which we do, which leaves room for something beyond. I hope I get to meet Kevin in the next to personally express how much he meant to me and us all.

Damnit. This will leave a big hole in the blogosphere. Miss him already. If the family has the keys to the blog I hope they post something where we can leave some reminiscences or something.

    3. KawSunflower

Thank you very much for letting us know, however sorrowful the news. Another decent, thoughtful, generous, & worthwhile human being is lost to us, but how I hope that he knew how many truly appreciated his sharing so much with us, those who knew him well & those newer to his writing.

I'll miss Kevin & his posts, his fascination with the heavens, Marian in the background & her beautiful quilts, and Hopper, Hilbert, & Charlie.

well, since this is a blog devoted to facts, she says kevin is 70 (which is incorrect)

she also says that her SO is kevin's older brother, but her bluesky pic sure doesn't look like someone with a 70+ SO (could be an old pic of course, but she's holding a smartphone)

anyway, i'm holding out for something more authoritative from the family

      1. kylemeister

"she also says that her SO is kevin's older brother"

She said the reverse of that.
I see that she also said that Kevin hates her.

May light perpetual shine upon you, Kevin. Nearly every day for what is now nearly three decades you offered me and many others a small gift. Thank you for your service brother.

KD up in heaven, we already miss you, your photos, your center-leftness, your willingness to put yourself out there, and your dedication to us, your daily followers. With you, we explored topics that we never would have touched.

Thank you for taking up so much of our time with photos of cats. Your family, including your cats, are in our thoughts. And know that you made a big contribution to our lives.

    😭😿

Hi everyone. If the evidence of Kevin's passing shown below is true then it is a very sad day. I'm still hoping for a post with lots of charts will pop up at any moment. But if it does not we will have lost an important voice in politics, cats, and various ephemera. I've read Kevin since Political Animal and had the opportunity to meet him many years ago--we had a great conversation! Not knowing what to do in time of death, I've done something. I've created a subreddit called Jabberwocking in case folks want to maintain this community. I'd prefer turn it over to another moderator given I essentially work 2 jobs. For now if you want to join, head over and I will accept you. If you want to moderate, let me know and we will figure it out. Also, let me know if this is a bad or unneeded idea. Sometimes we also need to just move on.

I can't even type this. You can't replace the irreplaceable.

Kevin is someone I always thought I could get along with, and he will remain with me, as an ideal of personal conduct, of character and virtue, as I think he will with all those who knew him and loved him in life.
