In which I investigate the investigations

Hardworking Iowa senator Joni Ernst delivers a bombshell:

ZOMG! And this is the result of "investigations," so you know it must be serious. I decided this demanded an investigation of my own, and after literally minutes of work I got the goods:

As it turns out, the Department of Energy reported 15,365 employees last May. Of those, 3,171 are remote field workers without offices. The others averaged 60% of their hours in person. This compares to an estimated 67% of in-person hours for US senators.

Merry Christmas.

Hopelessly incompetent, alcoholic, misogynistic, sexual predator, white supremist are the MAGA GOP's "wet dream" for potential Cabinet Members and holders of high office. If you add Russian stooge and pathological liar to the list of qualifications, you hit a MAGA home run.

I'm SOOOO sick of the fact that all we can do about this bullshit is poke fun at it. Politicians tell these blatant lies over and over and over, but people keep on voting them back into office. The bigger the liars, the more voters reward them. Because no one in the media is holding them to account.

Something gotta give here. Yes, this particular lie is a small one, but MAN do they add up. And it always benefits the worst of the worst.

I don't believe that the problem is that no one in the media is holding them to account. The problem is that the majority of the population don't consider being a pathological liar to be disqualifying, or even undesirable, in a politician.

There is a whole body of literature that celebrates the con man in America. For instance, Tom Sawyer and the whitewashing. The Music Man, Steve Martin's Leap of Faith. Heist films, such as Ocean's 11 and The Italian Job also fit.

The fairy tale Puss In Boots celebrates the con man. The tale of stone soup frames a trickster in a positive light.

        Sigh.

The stories that celebrate con men generally celebrate punching up, not punching down.

And when they don’t, the punching is largely harmless.

If 'no one in the media is holding them to account', then how do we know all of this information about how bad the nominees are? That can't be the problem; the problem must be that people aren't paying attention to 'the[correct] media.' We've been here before with our callouts of Fox News et al.

The war on Civil Service continues. SIGH.

My boss knows how productive we all are on the team. He's just as frustrated about RTO as we are.

8 out of 5000 would be totally expected if this were about independent contractors, on account that it is illegal to force an independent contractor to work on-site and such jobs likely were 100% remote anyway.

Trying to rationalize her statement is an exercise in futility. It's bonkers and she knows it's bonkers else she'd have included data supporting her claims.

Republicans think we are stupid for doing real investigations instead of just making wild shit up. The latter is much quicker and easier, and actually works better with their intended audience.
