Kamala Harris looks like Kamala Harris

I see that Donald Trump is still droning on about Kamala Harris's Time cover. It's fake, maybe, or it looks like Melania or Time is in the tank for Kamala or something. Just in case you're wondering what this is all about, here's the Time cover and the Getty photograph it's based on:

It's an ordinary photo illustration, and it looks precisely like Kamala Harris. Everyone satisfied?

It's quite obvious that all women look the same to Trump.

Except for the non-beautiful ones that he doesn't feel are good to grab, and they aren't really people or something.

Trump has a vast vocabulary for demeaning and insulting women.

By the only expression he has for praising (whether genuinely or to cover for his rank misogyny) is that a woman is “beautiful.”

The average six-year old boy has greater emotional capacity.

There’s a reason Trump’s own running mate compared him to Hitler.

It’s odd. On the time cover I get the sense that there is a Native American flavor to the pic. Maybe it is the things along the edge of her hair? Hard to say. Beautiful woman regardless.

I got the same Native American vibe. Seeing the two pictures side by side, the drawing gives her a longer, bonier face than in the photo. And the hair is wrong. I don’t think it’s a great drawing of her. But I don’t have any “feelings” about that. It’s no big deal. Trump’s just pissed she’s on the cover of Time, which used to be a thing.

I do sort of get the same impression. I also tried to figure out why and the best I could come up with was the light colored shirt triggered an impression somewhere in my mind. I guess I've seen images with Native Americans with their clothing in a similar position. Maybe?

Making her hair black instead of brown (it's a B/W drawing, so no avoiding that) helps create this. You can see a similar effect by changing the original photo to monochrome and lightening it a little bit.

The backdrop, especially on the sides, makes a difference on the Native American impression too. They've replaced the bokeh of the photo with vertically-aligned convention placards or something along both sides that look vaguely like braided and decorated hair, or the kind of side locks that eagle-feather headdresses sometimes have. And, along lines others have mentioned, the monochrome seems to emphasize underlying structure and de-emphasize mouth and lips.

I think our pouty little former guy is also pissed about the pose looking too visionary for his taste-- only men like him should be shown like that so women can gaze adoringly and admiringly at them.

And when you get right down to it, that cover should be him, dammit! Every cover should be him, if you ask him.

I was going to make a similar repy to Josef above, but your comment is more subtle than mine would have been.

Ah, but you see, 15 years ago SF was just coasting on the coat-tails of good things done by previous city administrations …

Of course those were probably all Democrats too 🙂

I wonder what the critical mass of say homelessness is required to cross a threshold of notice.

Ah, yes, like when Meg Whitman ran for governor of California against Jerry Brown, she lamented that California was nowhere near as great as it was when she first came to the state in 1981. It had to be pointed out to her that in 1981 the governor was... Jerry Brown.

"I saw a picture of her on Time Magazine today, she looks like the most beautiful actress ever to live. It was a drawing, and uh, actually, she looks very much like our great First Lady, Melania. She looked, she looked, she didn't look like [sic] Kamila, that's right, but of course she's a beautiful woman so we'll leave it that, right?"

It's not a question of whether or not the drawing hewed closely to her visage. This from the man who could not tell E Jean Carroll from his ex-wife Marla Maples just a few years ago.

What he's doing is objectifying women and creeping out by comparing Kamala to Melania. With age and decline in his prefrontal cortex, he cannot control his rapey, sicko, fondling, ogling nature.

I came here to say that the outfit she is wearing in that photo/picture - and I've seen it elsewhere - completely kicks ass. That works so well. Kamala is not doing the Nancy Pelosi monochrome dress and string of pearls, but stuff like this and I like it quite a bit. The string of pearls was good, mind you. Better than what, for instance DiFi would wear in the 80's and 90's.

Yeah, also in the drawing her cheekbones are ever so slightly higher, which also adds to the "Native American" vibe.
