Hey, lookie here:
California needs a warrior in the Senate—to stand up to special interests, fight the dangerous imbalance in our economy, and hold so-called leaders like Mitch McConnell accountable for rigging our democracy.
Today, I'm proud to announce my candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2024. pic.twitter.com/X1CSE8T12B

If she wins, she'll be the first Democrat ever elected to the Senate from Orange County.
Good for her, and better for our country if she wins.
I do hope Feinstein retires/ does not seek re-election.
with the condition people have been reporting feinstein to be in, i find it hard to believe she'd run again. but certainly stranger, dumber things have happened.
DiFi has quite a body of work but even setting aside her age, these times call for leather gloves, not white ones.

Why does she talk about "warriers" and "fight"?
Would be betetr toleave these to the MAGA-GAGA.
On the other hand she may be explicitly seeking to take back, or at least seek joint custody over,, those terms from the right.
Like flag imagery, there's a lot of language that the right has co-opted, buttressing the notion that only they seem/sound/look serious about (appropriate) conflict and about patriotism.
Fighting for what you believe in, and on behalf of others, isn't R or D. It's A. Over time the right has just had better branding. Flag imagery same. Now I don't say we should all hump the flag like Trump did (eww), but it belongs to all of us.
I'm just spitballing about her possible motivation here, but I do think her campaign will be one to watch. Little progressivism, little Midwestern vowels, could be a potent combo.
I do hope Feinstein retires -- at the end of her term. No midterm appointments, please. I'd like to see the voters decide.
I like Porter a lot. But I'd like her to continue keeping her seat from OC blue. Otherwise, it's more likely to turn red again.
Adam Schiff would be a great replacement for DiFi. I'd like to see that happen.
I'd take either Schiff or Porter in that role. I like the former a lot, too (we were born in the same hospital!), but if Porter wants that seat, I don't think the potential loss of the district is enough of a consideration to warrant her not running. And OC is betting bluer: there's no reason Dems couldn't find a good candidate. (Hey, I wonder if Kevin is looking for a new gig!).
For me the bigger worry is Feinstein. I hope to God she has the sense to bow out. She's earned a rest.
Feinstein is my Senator. I think Porter would be a great replacement for her, in spite of her Orange County background - I won't hold it against her.
Last election I said it was time for Feinstein to step down. I was very wrong, that would have been a disaster. So at this point I don't have an opinion, I think she should choose how she retires - she's one of the few politicians I actually "trust", to whatever extent that word has meaning when talking about retail politics.
why would feinstein stepping down before the last election have been a disaster?
Indeed, if she announced her retirement say in early 2017 she'd have given the field plenty of time to mount campaigns and it would have attracted a bunch of high provide Californian Pols to run.
why would feinstein stepping down before the last election have been a disaster?
Yeah. That comment makes no sense. 2018 was a good year for Democrats. Zero chance Republicans would have won a statewide race for Senate that cycle in California, right?
Unlike De Leon Katie Porte will probably win an election against Feinstein. She is probably the best person in the state for the job at this point.
To those who are worried keeping her seat from OC, isn't this a bird in the worth two in the bush thinking? I won't say whether it's bad or good because I have no notion of CA politics whatsoever, let alone OC, CA.
Unlike De Leon Katie Porte will probably win an election against Feinstein.
I really hope it doesn't come to that. Surely Feinstein's people will prevail upon her to retire.
Where does Porter stand on nuking the filibuster? IMO that issue trumps all others, and should be the litmus test for every new Dem Senate candidate going forward.
Whoever replaces Feinstein needs to be an upgrade on her filibuster stance.
Also highly important is DC statehood. The terrible two Senators from WV and AZ were against DC statehood so it couldn't get done in the last Congress 🙁
It's an issue I'm very passionate about having grown up 15 miles from DC and worked in DC for 17 years. The city deserves the full fruits of democracy.
Porter's timing is poor; she may have got the jump on Khanna & Schiff, but it's not a great look, coming before a Feinstein announcement & during another one of California's weather disasters.
And I see that those issues of her alleged rudeness, racist remarks, & others' reports of a toxic workplace are being dredged up. I had admired her communication skills prior to reading such negative statements & wonder to what extent the accusations are true.
And how much of the allegations are "Men have leadership qualities but Women are bossy"?
"Bossy" doesn't bother me.
But I have worked in an environment where bigotry reigned, & the nature of Porter's reported remarks sounds worse than the leaks from Klobuchar's office.
The last office I worked in was one in which it was a woman who created an environment as bad as the worst male manager I had encountered.
but it's not a great look, coming before a Feinstein announcement
It may be prompted in part by a desire to ensure Feinstein does make such an announcement (not to run). I respect and admire Senator Feinstein a great deal. But I strongly believe it's time for her to leave the Senate. She can run for another term if she wishes, but she's not entitled to that seat, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with letting her know she'll be challenged for the nomination.
I doubt that Feinstein needed to be given that embarrassing nudge. I don't think, after she stepped down from one activity following televised awkwardness, that she needs to be shown the door; she just wants to serve out the term.
Porter doesn't strike me as stupid or inept, so there must be something we don't know. Announcing in the middle of a disastrous storm is fighting for media attention and terrible optics. She should learn from Ted Cruz and use the opportunity to quietly sneak off on vacation.
Maybe it was about to leak and/or he has intel to the effect that another candidate was on the verge of announcing...
I'll bet money Feinstein runs again. She should have been sent home years ago, and was borderline senile during the Trump administration.
...and at the right hand of Elizabeth Warren, the two will make strong men turn green and crap themselves.
