I like taking pictures from airplane windows, but this trip was mostly a bust on that score. The best I got was a few pictures of the New York skyline as we glided into Newark Airport in Jersey. Changing planes in Newark turned out to be a horrific experience, and I feel lucky that I got home at all, let alone only a few hours late. I'm not sure how much of this clusterfuck was the fault of United Airlines; how much was the fault of the airport; and how much was just bad luck. Luckily I was flying business class, and after several tries my exalted status finally got me just enough special treatment that I got my flight rebooked and headed for home. The folks who were flying coach might still be in the airport to this day, for all I know.
Anyway, here are the three pictures I got from the plane window. Pick your favorite!
I remember flying in at night past the Statue of Liberty (or was it flying out?) years ago. Ok, that was probably LaGuardia.
Middle picture.
My son and his family live in New Jersey and I’ve flown into EWR many times. The worst airport experiences I’ve ever had were in EWR Terminal A. United is in Terminal C, but I still suspect the airport was the problem.
I vote for EWR being the problem too. I had to change planes at EWR for a flight back from an Italian vacation in 2001, it was a dump back then too. I think I was flying Itallia/Delta.
Me, too. I used to live near the George Washington Bridge (could see it from my window) back in the days when I also had to do a lot of travel for business. So I often flew out of EWR. Really the best you could hope for there was that it wouldn't be horrendous. I can't remember even a single good experience there.
My mom grew up in Elizabeth NJ, she was very near the airport and saw a few crashes, one of which happened in downtown Elizabeth right into the Raritan River.
Love the first one, but I'm a sucker for a 777-300, even being loaded!
Looks like winter.
What is all that swamp?
You've never heard of the swamps of Jersey? It's where the syndicate hides the bodies. Either there or the Pine Barrens.
I've never been to New Jersey. Is that where the swamps are, right next to the airport in Newark?
The whole area is historically wetland. See New Jersey Meadowlands.
Yep! That's why the region is very prone to floods.
Love that middle one! But I'd love any picture at an airport or out of an airplane.
Wasn't Newark the airport Trump seized?
Tall buildings and airplanes in the same pic still give me the creeps
Try another round of pics Kevin
Next time take a non-stop from Europe to the west coast. They fly over central Greenland which is one of the few places grand enough to be best seen from 30,000ft. Some of my best airplane photos on that route. (Only works westbound cause the eastbound leg is at night).
One of the two long parallel runways is closed for repairs - that's hardly United's fault. Depending on winds they can get almost to full capacity using the shorter intersecting runway, but that's not always possible. Avoid EWR until the runway work is completed in October!
