Pictures of Rome will decorate the blog for months to come, but for now let's get back home. This is a Western tiger swallowtail, which I recently discovered is not quite as colorful as an Eastern tiger swallowtail. Why is everything more colorful on the other side of the Mississippi?
The top picture shows the butterfly head on. The bottom picture is more conventional.
West if the Mississippi the sun is stronger and bleaches everything more … 🙂
From my back window I can see three trees whose leaves are already turning. One is a maple turning red and the other two are turning yellow.
I think it's because of how hot and dry it's been.
I have also seen a tree turning color in Illinois. I at least don't remember such a thing happening at the very beginning of August.
I've never seen a head-on picture of a flying butterfly! Thanks!
