This is a rare photo of a bee taken from above. It's rare for me, anyway, since I mostly capture them from the side. The shutter speed was 1/8000th of a second, which still wasn't quite enough to freeze the wing movement.

Shutter speed is one of two attributes (the other being articulating viewscreen) that would make me want to upgrade my budget Nikon dSLR. I have it worse than you; mine tops out at 1/4000.
Sudden cooler weather brought on by clouds, seems to slow them down quite a bit. Was able to capture honey and bumble bees lethargic, sitting on flowers.
Did you submit any?

I’m scared of bees. I hate them.
Great bee! I'm a big admirer of our apian friends. Got a xeric yard filled (more like"overrun") with flowering bushes, trees, and flowers. At times during the summer, you can walk past and hear what seems like the whole yard buzzing.
