How many tax dollars went into that rock? Reminds of the big bucks the city of San Jose paid for a sculpture honoring Mexican Americans. The artist proposal looked sort of ok. The actual sculpture looked, as said the members of the Mexican American community of San Jose, like a pile of dog poop.
That’s the county museum - LACMA, if you want to look it up - so theoretically no tax dollars paid for it, though of course I assume LACMA is non-profit and doesn’t pay taxes. So there could well be some inherent subsidy if you want to look at it that way. But no more subsidy than their David Hockney paintings get, probably.
