Actually do not think that is so horrible. The earth does seem to be flat based on the evidence people can see with their own senses in their daily lives.
To understand it is round, you have to believe what other people tell you is true rather than what your own eyes see , or maybe be in a place and have enough sophistication to see evidence that it could be round ( i.e. sailors seeing ships go down over the horizon).
So that 16% have some doubt when their own senses conflict with what they are told is no surprise.
And personally do I have some doubts whether the earth is round? Of course I do. Anyone logical should have " some ", just very small. Hell, I have some small doubts whether anything except myself is real !

Where are you seeing that cdc, who and nih are all predicting another wave , and especially within 4 to 6 weeks? Might it be that you are thinking that is true because of your beliefs?
There was just a consensus model released yesterday by cdc advisors showing a continued decline through spring next year with cases going below 10k a day. Personally I think that is possible but may be too optimistic.
There is some concern that there MIGHT be another wave but that is not a prediction. And , of course, if a new worse variant appears, who knows?
I think the three main uncertainties are how much vaccine and natural immunity wanes ( I know you are far more pessimistic there), how much weather affects spread, and if there will be a new much worse variant.
What worries me is we just might be underestimating the weather effect . Last year, we had winter coincide with alpha emergence which made it hard to see how much weather played a role. I am starting to think that it was the bigger factor not alpha.
And one thing you said, as something not to put much faith in, was " blue states have high numbers of vaccinated so covid is declining ".
That is no longer true . Look at the recent case numbers. Cases now seem to be increasing somewhat more in the blue states with high vaccinations than in red states with low vaccinations ( case numbers still higher in red states). And more so every day .
And this seems to be related to geography. Which red states with lower vaccinations are cases still increasing? Those is the north like Alaska and Montana. And which blue states are decreasing? Those in the south .
If vaccination looked to be explaining different case rates changes, that would be good news as long as we keep vaccinating, should be getting even better. But, as it appears weather is again a huge issue, that portends maybe bad news this winter, at least for northern states .
If change in weather by freaking September already shows some significant effect, what will it be in December.
In May, while everyone was complacent because cases were low and still dropping, the trouble signal was that delta cases were rising fast even if not yet a big %age . You could see thus wave coming then.
I think this is an example of reading too much into current stats .
What many here have recently been doing is reading too much into case levels in the summer and comparing red southern states like fla to blue northern states like Minnesota. And thinking that the problem is all the bad republican policies and vaccination differences and not considering weather.
And assuming that will stay the same for winter . It will not . By winter the blue northern states will be harder hit by any new wave than the southern red states. And fla will be have one of the lowest case rates .

And this very same group is the one we DIDN'T test in the first 3 waves - so we don't know WHO has had an asymptomatic case before and may have HAD "natural immunity" prior to getting either Delta, Mu, or R1.

Weather is what causes a lot of indoor activity . That is the major effect weather has. Basically saying same thing .
And I tend to think there is a good chance we will have some sort of a mini wave, muted and only in some areas. But not starting in 4 weeks and probably not by 6 although possible.
