Lunchtime Photo

I don't think the metro in Rome sets any records, but it sure has some very long escalators. I think the stations have to be fairly deep in order to avoid tunneling through ancient artifacts, which is also the reason that none of the metro lines cross the central city.

Despite the fact that this is a minimal system with only two lines (really 3, but really-really only 2), and not a lot of stops, (though checking with Google there are 73), I found it to be pretty effective...for this tourist, though I had an apt central city.

What was especially nice was that subway tickets were good on the above ground bus lines...which, surprise-surprise, {I must be in double wording today!), were excellent.

I've been in Los Angeles for over 60 years now and I can't conceive of ever being on a LA bus line...though Rome was fun and pretty good.

My Father too me to the Coliseum (the Los Angeles one), to hear Kennedy's Democratic acceptance speech:

"The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe--the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.

We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans--born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage--and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

        This much we pledge--and more."

        etcetera, and etcetera and etcetera....lol

Thank you for reminding me of these words...(The World IS Very Different Now...as Kennedy said then and for now)

        Very Best Wishes, Traveller

Don't be silly. The reason that none of them cross the central city is that's where the secret underground Vatican-Rothschild-One World Order command center is, and they can't allow it to be exposed.

    "Artifacts," piffle.

Interesting, Thanks, I have a thing for volcanoes (and the ocean), I would not have thought this possible. Thanks again.
