At first I thought that was the space needle in the second photo but the buildings don't match. Chicago? Nah, I don't have a clue.

Hey! You're in my neck of the woods! Welcome! I'm afraid the weather this week will only reinforce our reputation, though.

Houston! It's a much cooler city than most people think. Many excellent museums, wonderful tacquerias, and just a touch of anarchy. Try to make it to the Art Car Museum and the Orange Show for some off-beat destinations. The campus of Rice University is also a real gem.

Did a "road trip" (we flew, of course) with a bunch of Pats fans some years ago to attend a game. Was a much cooler city than I was expecting. Great clubbing scene (back when I did that sort of thing). Pleasantly chaotic and eclectic, and much greener than I had expected (as a New Englander I think I was vaguely picturing cacti and tumbleweeds, but of course that part of Texas is wet, swampy, and hard up on Louisiana).

And of course Houston these days is quite blue .

Summer is really the only time I would recommend avoiding a trip there. It's definitively NOT a dry heat! The rewards any other time are excellent, eclectic food and an unusually vibrant arts and music scene.

Did you over expose/blur the billboards on purpose???
    😉
Not a desert area, and trees aren't really changing color much yet...hmmm...
Looks like a flat/marshy area on the one side of the city, with other urban centers in the background.

But what about those light floating in the sky???

I've been in the dark. The light as well. It's not that much different. If you're looking. Patterns and categories. Bar charts and data streams. Doesn't matter how light or dark, they all look the same. Desolate cites in the southwest of the United States. Pleasant to visit. But who'd want to live there? They all look the same.

You are obviously not standing on the hot corner of a suicide bridge as am I considering tonight's election numbers.

Ain't no way to sugar coat it, its bad....especially losing even New Jersey...which I thought was safe....no so, Mr. Wrongo I say to myself under my breath a thousand times an hour.

    Best Wishes, Traveller

WaPo has the NJ race as a near dead heat (about 1,300 votes) with still 13% left to count (as of 5:45AM EDT). No idea which areas are left to count, but late returns usually run Dem in my experience. If Murphy pulls that out I think the overall election is honestly pretty much ok for Democrats. Virginia stings, but it was extremely close, and not that much damage occurs when a single governor's mansion is taken by the GOP in a state that's full of blue voters and, quite honestly, is continuing to grow bluer. Youngkin will be on a short leash. And, let's face it, a snapback against the incumbency brand is almost a law of physics in US politics.

2022 is the biggie, and it's too early to be confident as to what happens then, but if I'm Joe Biden I'd rather have dealt with Afghanistan, Delta and inflation in 2021 than 2022.

Most of the remaining votes are in the higher-population, heavily Democratic counties so things would have to go very wrong for Murphy not to come out on top. Definitely some big R gains though.

I just figured out the bottom picture must have been taken pretty close to the Last Concert Cafe (located along the bottom edge to the right of center). That's a Houston institution which is definitely worth a visit.
