Lunchtime Photo

This is a panoramic picture of the Eastern Sierras taken in the early morning on Highway 168 just before the turnoff to the Bristlecone Pine Forest. The small patch of brown in the lower middle is Big Pine. The colors in this picture are interesting, but what's really remarkable is how solid the lines are. They look drawn on, not photographed. And yet, photographed they were.

I don't know how far east you drove on 168, Kevin, but I've admired some gorgeous backward loos at the Sierras way far east to near the state line.

Did you drive up to Bristlecone? There are some stunning views along the road and from above timberline. Absolutely awe-inspiring.

I would like to second this. There are places along the Bristlecone Pine road where one can see the Sierra from the Greenhorns to well north of Mammoth. As S1AMER said "stunning."

Kev, been very much enjoying your picture tour of SoCal. Don't mind the repeats, but you must have tons of never-before-seen stuff. Bring it on!

hi Kevin, lurker since Calpundit days, only just created an account to comment.... Anyway, if it's morning, you were facing East, away from the Sierras and toward the Basin and Range. Each little mountain range has its own name. Here, on the horizon on the left I believe is is Last Change Mountain, part of the Last Chance Range. Similarly, you would be facing away from Big Pine, and the patch of brown is probably part of the Deep Springs Valley. The mountains behind the brown patch are probably a spur of the Inyos, locally (in the Deep Springs Valley) called the Lake Mountains.
