Lunchtime Photo

Our apartment is right near Église Saint-Augustin de Paris, but like many large churches its rose window is partly covered by its organ. However, this was no problem: The window is symmetrical, so I cut out a pie-shaped piece from the top, inverted it, and plopped it into the space blocked by the organ at the bottom.

Is this cheating? Sure! But at least we all get to see what the full rose window probably looks like if we were able to climb up behind the organ and take a look.

Good job! I can't tell where the splice is.

It always amazes me how many of the old architectural masterpieces were so detailed, so intricate -- yet set far up on ceilings or high walls, so that nobody could get a good enough view to be abe to appreciate the details.

Or maybe folks used to be more farsighted than we are today.

Nah, they just had good iPhones with high resolution and extreme zoom capability.

      I’m assuming Leonardo invented them.

Next you'll produce a lovely photo of the organ with the distracting glary window magically removed.

    The window is symmetrical

Is it? Looking at the figures in the outermost panels it seems they are all feet towards the floor, head towards the heavens, rather than feet towards the center, head towards the circumference... Except of course where you performed your bit of photosubterfuge.
