Lunchtime Photo

This is the interchange from the 55 to the 405 freeway in Costa Mesa. It was taken at 3 am during the early stages of the COVID-19 shutdown when I could do a 30-second exposure and still have no cars in the picture.

Of course, at 3 am I might be able to do that anytime, which makes this a pretty humdrum image. However, for nearly a year it's stayed in my queue without being deleted, which means I kinda like it for some reason. The colors are nice. The arc of the onramp is nice. The emptiness of a normally bustling road is nice. I'm not sure what else attracts me to it.

This reminds me of arriving in California, full of hope in the land of promises. The haze just over the 405 takes the roadway from mundane to surreal. Cue up Stairway to Heaven and call this On-Ramp to Paradise.

Very long exposures can make night scenes look like daytime, but with odd features. It's those odd features that create mystery behind the photo and invites viewers to spend more time looking at the photo. Try 2 minute exposures to get the sky to turn bright blue.

The image is otherworldly...it is obviously taken on earth, but the sense of loneliness and alienation is overwhelming...the image taking you right off of earth, or maybe even beyond the present.

Best Wishes, Traveller...with a few further observations:

I don't mind the mildly, weakly orange type...I wish the margins were a bit loser...I have a lot or white space on both sides of my screen...of course, the setup may be mainly for mobile...I don't know.

    However!

If the margins were a little wider right & left, you could use a little larger type face also....unlike many people, I will not be reading both MJ and Kevin...so readability is important to me, and maybe others also. Just something to mull over.

    C'mon Kevin - 'fess up

It's the on ramp you took at 100+mph in your Tomaso de Pantera just a couple of seconds prior to taking that photograph.
