Lunchtime Photo

This is Lone Pine peak in the Eastern Sierra (the peak slightly right of center). I don't know if the mountain is named after the town or the town after the mountain. Either way, the peak looms over the town no matter where you are.

This is the best picture I got of the Sierras, and that's all because of the light. During the next few days of my trip the sky was clear and lovely, which is great for touristing around but not so great for dramatic picture taking.

Wonderful photo. Back in the old days of B/W print, would you have tried to tease out details of the trees in the foreground?

Beautiful opening in the sky. Watching those clouds and light for an afternoon would make the world seem peaceful.

As any true Californian knows, it is Lone Pine Peak. If it wasn't for all the drama, you might be able to see Mt. Whitney in there too, it is a truly awesome stretch of peaks from around Olancha north to Big Pine.
