Lunchtime Photo

Today is my first day at City of Hope in preparation for my CAR-T treatment next week. I'm getting a PICC line placed and undergoing a few tests, but no more. Tomorrow is officially Day -5, leading up to Day 0 on Tuesday when the CAR-T cells will be infused into my bloodstream.

The most appropriate picture I could find for this occasion was Les Invalides, the hospital built by Louis XIV for the care of soldiers hurt in his endless wars. It is also the home of Napoleon's tomb, which to this day I've still never seen. I've never quite figured out why I should bother.

Perhaps that is where Grant is buried?-)

Yes good luck. Why see the Napoleon tomb? First the war museum is quite good with a V-2 rocket and an enigma machine. The tomb is something else. I have never seen anything quite like it, it makes the pyramids blush. It is so pompous and so over the top that it does create an impression.

I did get I kick out of seeing Field Marshal Ferdinand Foch (of WWI fame) stuck off in an alcove. It could be my imagination, but I swear I could hear him rotating within his coffin. Hell has to have a special place for WWI generals and field marshalls.

Visited back in 2001. Glad I did. Can't do the walking anymore. We also drove around the countryside down to Spain and up through the middle of the county. Visited the cave and Château. If I could, I would post my photo of his tomb.

Best of luck. Or break a spleen. Or whatever it is you're supposed to say for medical procedures.

Napoleon's tomb is worth visiting just to make sure he's still dead. You know. Like Francisco Franco.
