Here's a pair of Canada geese honking their way over our little lake. About a month ago, as usual, the geese made two nests on the island in the middle of the lake, and as usual neither one of them panned out. But they never learn. Next year they'll be back and they'll make a pair of nests in exactly the same spots. What dumb birds.

But they are very polite. It's a national thing.
Never find yourself under a flying goose. They are indiscriminate bombers.
I've never come across a polite goose when their are goslings around to be protected.
Not where I live, they're not. They poop everywhere, and attack for no reason. It's the reason they're Canada geese, not Canadian geese. If they were the latter, then yes they'd have to be polite. And drink beer. And speak execrable French. And have pretty good healthcare. And not be hosers. But they are hosers. Such hosers.
Who says the nests didn't pan out? Maybe geese use different criteria than you.
Yeah! Maybe the geese thought it was an excellent summer. You shouldn't project your middle class California liberal white male values onto something you have never experienced. I'm trying to be more sensitive to those around me.
Ah, nature!

(the deer has something stuck in his antlers).
You call it dumb. I call it hopeful.
Yesterday, it seemed petty to make the point that "dumb" is a word to generally be avoided, and that our own species may be the best argument for refraining from its use.
Agree with pjcamp that they are hopeful - and persevere! What choice do they have?
A few years ago, there were several local incidents in which "hunters" hacked breast meat from Canada geese, not bothering to use a bullet. I'll take the "dumb" creatures any day.
They partner for life, and I find that their flights and calls overhead bring joy.
