This bridge was built by the Army Corps of Engineers after the 1970 flood in Silverado Canyon washed out the old bridge. It spans Silverado Creek, which is normally pretty dry but got some water during our big rains earlier this year.

Look at that picture--it might give you the idea that there was a time when the Corps of Engineers had some soul.

That's remarkably scenic for a military project. I'd have guessed WPA.

I agree with the above comments, while being reminded of some of the smaller & lower bridges in my home state. Don't remember ever seeing stones used the way they are in the upright positions.
