I was about to comment that this was a marsh, not a swamp, but per Wikipedia a marsh is dominated by soft-stemmed (thus typically low) vegetation while a swamp has many trees. So this is indeed a swamp.
There is overlap between the two, especially in common parlance.
I think my reaction comes from a sense that swamp has a pejorative connotation (smells bad?) while marsh sounds homey and warm.
