Lunchtime Photo

I spent yesterday at the Los Angeles Zoo, but before we get to that it's time to finally finish up my photos from the San Diego Zoo three years ago. This is a black-billed magpie, a handsome bird that's common in western North America. And with that, we're done with the San Diego Zoo.

Common... Well, I've never seen one. (peers at their distribution map) Aha, so nowhere near the coast. That makes more sense.

They don't live in Southern California. They live in the great basins, along the upper altitudes, along the rockies. They don't live in the sierras or cascades, but their range extends to them.

Didn't China just say that they were sending a new pair of pandas to the San Diego Zoo? You must revisit and capture roly-poly balls of fur.

I've seen zoo pandas. They never move. Ever. A set of stuffed panda replicas would work just as well. Every day the zoo staff could move them to a new position. People would still be charmed, and we wouldn't be on the hook to China.

Stunning shade of blue - cerulean, or deeper? No similar remarkable colors where I feed the birds & squirrels, but I still like to see the regulars.
