This is the city of Banning at the tail end of winter, taken from Highway 243 snaking up the San Jacinto mountains. The Eastern Sierras are the snowy peaks in the distance.

Sorry, that can't be the Eastern Sierra. It's Mt. San Gorgonio and the San Bernardino Mountains. On a clear day, though, you *can* actually glimpse the Eastern Sierra from the top of San Gorgonio (ca. 11,000 ft.), the tallest peak in Southern California.
Indeed.
Agreed.
It's been so long since I've been through there that I had to check the map. Let's hope they don't elect a nutcase school board like Redding or Huntington Beach. Imagine the headline: "Banning Banning Books Again".
No joke: there are signs throughout the city, mostly info about local bus service, written in Spanish, where the town name is translated as "Prohibición." Obviously they just ran their English text through Google Translate instead of having an actual Spanish speaker write it up.
I can’t find anything online backing up that assertion. Of course, google stopped working a few years ago so just because I can’t find it doesn’t mean it’s not true. Got any links with photos, Batchman?
No, I’m pretty sure he photoshopped in the Eastern Sierras at the top.
