This is a greater one-horned rhinoceros at the LA Zoo. It looks more like a no-horned rhinoceros, amirite?

There's a wildlife park here in Ohio called The Wilds, and it's involved in a lot of work with breeding programs for endanged species, including the greater one-horned rhino (aka the Indian rhino, which is a lot less of a mouthful). During the winter, their rhinos spend most of their time indoors, and if you go on a behind-the-scenes visit at that time, you'll get very up close and personal with the rhinos. They like to get a scratch in the creases around their neck, so they'll come right up to the fence to let you scratch them. (Although it's hard to imagine that they can feel anything through their inch-thick skin.)

Possibly the horn was removed to protect the rhino from poachers? Poachers are after the Rhinoceros horn; that's the part they can sell. No horn, no incentive to spend bullets for nothing.

Every zoo rhino I’ve seen has worn down horns like this. They like to rub them on their enclosure walls.
