Perhaps back in the day the blue pigment used was rare and expensive. Like tyre purple.
Weel, if it didn't have blue trim they couldn't really call it the blue tower, could they?
In Bavaria this particular blue is used in the flag and crests of the area. It could be culturally significant. Calling it famous might be a marketing ploy.
