Merry Christmas!

This is the Segerstrom Center Christmas Tree. It's a real tree, but with some branches cut and others carefully added to make it completely symmetrical. That's how things roll here in the OC.

Merry Christmas to everyone, and I hope you can take a day off from politics and just relax. At least for a day, things aren't as bad as you think.

Surprised Conor Friedersdorf didn't find an indigent person to pay to attempt to burn this tree down. Would be a west coast worst coast analog to the Reichst--... Tannenbaum Fire at FOXnews World HQ in JewYorkCity.

Actually, a few years ago there was an electrical short and the tree did catch on fire! Not much was left, but the following year another tree rose from the ashes (metaphorically speaking, of course). It is really beautiful. Happy holidays!

Cal's dreaming of a wet Christmas.
Just give us snow on mountain sides.
      Where the trees are browning
      No water's crowning
      A top our dried-out reservoirs...

God rest ye merry gentlemen let nothing you dismay. Remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas day. To save us all from satan's power, when had gone astray. Oh Tidings of Comfort and Joy. Comfort and Joy. Oh Tidings of Comfort and Joy.
May everyone have a blessed wonderful Christmas day.

G-d bless, protect, & preserve Christmas trees everywhere.

As if humans who can't protect our very planet need to "perfect" trees to represent Christmas

Sorry - with appreciation for Kevin Drum's greeting but none for imperfect humans who insist on perfection in other living things. And TBH, I was feeling anything but grumpy on this balmy day before seeing this California thing - at least, I hope that it's limited to OC.

Though atheist, I do love Christmas. I’ll suspend disbelief and embrace the celebration in all its glory (to God in the highest!) It’s an easier intellectual compromise than celebrating Memorial Day or Independence Day. Ha!

Watching an NFL game on TV now but noting that up next on Fox is a violent fight. For Christmas Day. Whatever we think of the despicable Fox News networks, there is something pathetic about the Fox sports network which is nearly as bad. I’m sure all the families which shared weapons of mass destruction for Christmas gifts will be watching. With any luck a few will get drunk and shoot each other.

That would be a very happy day!

(snort) You don't "shoot" with "weapons of mass destruction" -- you vaporize entire cities. I'm assuming you meant some kind of puny firearm, something that can be openly purchased for less than many $ millions per unit? How the language has been degraded in the last several decades. I blame the Republicans.

An AR-15 is a weapon of mass destruction. Mass shootings are mass destruction. Nukes and bioweapons are for nation states.

        Snort!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is appalled; was afraid some would think of me as just a negative crone who hates Christmas. It's just that I love trees & remember feeling bad that my mother had to chop down a Chinese elm that was too close to our house after a tornado damaged our neighborhood.

Nothing is as bad as you think it is, it's just human nature to think you've got it worse than others when of course it's not true. Indeed, what's needed is not just one Christmas Day to not think about politics and just relax but many more.
