Nobody knows how much aid Gaza is getting these days

How much food is getting into Gaza these days? I have no idea.

Israel opened the Erez crossing last week and reopened the Kerem Shalom crossing. The Rafah crossing remains closed.

Since then, COGAT claims that nearly 300 trucks a day have been crossing into Gaza. The UN puts the number at about 100 per day, but warns that its count doesn't include commercial trucks.

In other words, there's just no way of knowing how much aid is truly getting into Gaza. It hardly seem plausible that the vast difference between the UN numbers and the Israeli numbers is solely because of commercial trucks, but maybe. At the moment, though, this is the best I can offer given the incomplete and changing data from both sides.

It is letting zillions of trucks through, but from what I understand they have to go into Israel proper to be inspected and cleared and only then may enter Rafah.

I think (pre-current military operations) the Israelis are only on the Egypt side and just reject or pass them through, they are not diverted out of Gaza for any other inspections.

Egypt has a peace treaty with Israel that grants Israel control of what goes in and out of Gaza. Egypt receives billions of dollars per year from the US which would be immediately jeopordized if they pull out of this treaty, among other reasons they prefer to keep it. The Egyptian government has no love of Hamas as they are affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

One thing you can depend on: Israel is lying. Every time they claim something, they are unable to provide any evidence and all of the other evidence points to them telling lies.

What is of some interest to me is how Gaza, or the I/P never ending disaster has sucked all t he air out of the room in reference to our multitude of wars ongoing...across the vast world...just everywhere. 1) Ukraine, 2) Africa, mostly Sudan bot also Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic (CAR), the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan 3). Myanmar...

While checking my spelling I ran across this great link, visual and text...better than me writing it.

Apparently, a lot of aid is getting to Israel's various checkpoints -- the "doors" of its open air prison called "The Gaza Strip." And then, it's inspected. If anything on the shipment annoys the inspectors, like O2 tanks for the hospitals (now non-existant), the whole truckload is rejected.

That takes care of a LOT. There are also the "demonstrators", Israelis who block the trucks and with the full support of the Israeli occupation forces, pull the emergency aid packages off the trucks and destroy them.

How much is actually getting through? Are there any non-Israeli observers who could say? Well, all reporters who might not toe the line have been banished, or killed. Some 150 and counting killed in Gaza -- no kidding! The US is justifiably angry about the murder of Kashoggi. Clearly, the Saudis should have just gotten the Israelis to do it for them. Then it would have been just fine with Uncle Sucker.

Like mcdruid observes, anything Israel tells us is guaranteed to be a lie.

People have been predicting famine and starvation since last October. Everything was going to collapse in a matter of days!

“On November 17, the WFP warned of the “immediate possibility” of starvation, highlighting that supplies of food and water were practically non-existent.”

Here we are 5 months later and… who knows? Something must be getting through.

    1. Salamander

No, the US mainstream media just isn't reporting the deaths from starvation. The lefty media, who don't go by Israel's "statements", are.

      1. Justin

Hamas is letting the Israelis kick their ass and starve the “civilians”. They should give up and save what’s left. They won’t, of course, so I’m hard pressed to think of a way out. I guess they think that they can win.

        1. Salamander

They will. They've been at this fight for near a century now. "Hamas" is just the current name for the struggle for a Palestinian homeland. Israel wants to stamp out all aspirations of statehood, all belief that Palestinians are and ought to be a free people.

But the more civilians, women, children, babies Israel kills and maims, the stronger the opposition to them and their brutal reign becomes. In some 80 years, Israelis haven't figured this out. Maybe they just like killing too much.

          1. jeffreycmcmahon

Hamas is also the name for a brutal theocratic terrorist organization that should not be supported, and the Palestinian people deserve better.

            1. Salamander

They definitely deserve better. That's why Israel has been arresting and "detaining" up and coming Palestinian leaders for decades now. It's to ISrael's advantage to constantly "need to defend itself."

      2. rick_jones

I won’t purport to have a handle on lefty media, but the one, ostensibly lefty site I peruse, Mother Jones, has not been reporting starvation deaths. Which lefty media have?

        1. left of centerfield

The only thing I see are two-month old reports of a total of 27 children who had starved to death.I don't see anything more recent. I think part of the problem is the near collapse of the health system. I don't think identifying cause of death is at the top of their priorities.

A lot less food than they could be getting.

"Far-right Israeli settlers step up attacks on aid trucks bound for Gaza

The settler groups use a web of publicly accessible WhatsApp groups to track the trucks and coordinate attacks, providing a window into their activities."

Pretty clear that anything the Israeli government says is false, except for when they say they want to bulldoze the whole strip.
