        Yeah, I saw that a couple of weeks back. I, too, was skeptical. It looks like the "box" of people occupies at most about 3x the land area of NYC's five boroughs. Which works out to less than 1,000 square miles. So you'd have to put 8 million persons in every square mile (more than ten times the population density of Manhattan), without the use of skyscrapers. That's something like 12,500 persons occupying every acre.

        That doesn't seem possible. I'd say the graphic is off by a factor of roughly ten. But admittedly I haven't tried this experiment at home!

          There are 43,560 square feet to the acre. 12,500 people to the acre is about 3.5 square feet per person. That's not an extremely dense standing crowd (although of course it's impossible to pack the whole world population into a standing room crowd).

    Until just a couple of days ago I wouldn’t have had a clue what Kevin meant. In case there are others here who are clueless as I was, a “lid” is Washington speak for a memorandum for reporters indicating there will be no further availability or public statements that day. Right wingers made a big stink about Biden calling one on Monday. In other words, Kevin is snarking.

          C.J. uses the phrase "full lid" to say that there will be no more news from the White House today. It is a real term used by the White House Press Secretary.

      One has to presume that the Freakshow Caucus will want to exact as least as much from Scalise as they did from McCarthy -- they'll want to ensure their ability to shut down the gummint, default on the debt, and surrender the Ukraine to their backer Vladimir.

      Has Jordan conceded defeat? As a Trump supporter shouldn’t he be calling the vote fake news and demand to be installed as speaker? Maybe he can get the women congressional members to wear t-shirts with a big red J on them. What about the Q-Anon Shaman? Has he weighed in on this?

    The solar eclipse happens on Saturday morning. Many people in the US will see at least part of it. Especially those of us on the west coast.
