Quote of the day: No boring policy blather for Ron DeSantis

From the New York Times, describing a massive internal strategy document posted today by Ron DeSantis's Super PAC:

The main strategy memo for the debate contains no mention of policy — and the advice steers Mr. DeSantis away from talking about specific solutions because doing so won’t get him headlines.

It's all zingers and attack lines. And why not? DeSantis's policy positions aren't all that popular in the first place.

I'd give anything to see a certain mouse run across the stage in front of DeSantis, and for the camera to give it at least as much attention as went to Pence's fly.

It is the primary of the Republican party. Why should he talk about policies?

The only really interetsing thing about these debate is how much Christie will succeed to damage Trump for the general election.

More remarkable is the idiotic demarche of defence of Trump.

That's idiotic and reflects (like De Santis' anti-Disney jihad) bumbling judgment.

His self-interest is not to defend Trump, but to have Trump bleed out.

As Christie, if he were competent in general politics (which is becoming rather self-evident he is not), he'd either attack himself OR perhaps more in keeping with his cowardice on confrontation, to damn with faint praise.

He should be (subtly or not so subtly) sticking knives in Trump so that Trump begins to bleed, not bloody defending him...

Exactly right. I cannot imagine what DeSantis is telling funders to explain how he will beat Trump. You don't win by planning on coming in second.

And taking on Trump would be so easy--just call him a loser, say that he lost to Sleepy Joe Biden, talk about how Trump has no plan to do other than lose again, and then finish off with a plea to Republican voters: Do you want you campaign donations to go to Trump's shady legal team, or towards beating Sleepy Joe?

Christie may be running for the next Senate opening in New Jersey - he's not running for President. And except for DeSantis, none of the other Republican "candidates" are really running for President. They're either running for Vice President or something else down the line. They can't afford to offend Trump's backers.

At the local farmers' market this morning, all of the people under the red tent were wearing MAGA or anti-"Brandon" slogans, & the tablecloth was emblazoned with just one candidate's name. They obviously aren't the least bit interested in a "Republican" primary in NoVa.

  5. KJK

The only actual GOP/MAGA policies are tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, immigration theatrics (laced heavily with racism and cruelty), and anti-wokeness (whatever the hell that is).

Of course DeathSantis on the campaign trail apparently has all the personality and charisma of dead mackerel, so he has that going for him.

  6. Yikes

The "policies" are so obvious that mutton heads like Greene and Gaetz barely even bother showing up to Congress. A total idiot, can, and most assuredly has, won Republican seats under the following.

    1. Anti abortion
    2. Pro gun
    3. Anti tax
    4. Anti brown immigration
    5. Anti regulation of virtually any kind.
    6. Pro punishment of criminals, as long as at least brown.
    7. Anti liberal

That's all you need, and I made the list go to seven. I doubt you even need to go beyond three or four as long as you are loud and clear on my #7.

Actually this is the key part quote of the day "the advice steers Mr. DeSantis away from talking about specific solutions because doing so won’t get him headlines."

Gee, I wonder who it could be that is responsible for policy positions never generating headlines? That sure is a puzzler. Maybe somebody at the Times can figure it out.
