Wonder how much of the increase in auto theft was due to Hyundai and Kia models which lack an immobilizer? Thefts of Hyundai's and Kia's are up on the order of 600% after videos appeared on You Tube and TikTok instructing how to steal them.

Ha. Was thinking the same thing. If not for Kia/Hyundai not giving a damn, auto theft would have likely also declined with other crimes.

Interesting thought however I wonder if the main culprit is trucks?
given how much a new truck costs versus a car does the thief get more bang for his buck by stealing a motor vehicle than say holding up someone walking home?
I know of several contractors who have had trucks and trailers stolen from job sites over the last year,. some have gone so far as to put Apple air tags or other tracking devices on their vehicles and their more expensive tools (like compressors and portable generators)

There are also the high-tech key fob decoders that have started to be used for thefts, particularly for high-end autos.

I will watch the next month of Morning Joe - yes, I hate myself this much - to see if Scarborough ever mentions the falling crime rate.

He won't. I am not the least bit afraid he'll prove me wrong, but it's only fair to verify.

I've never heard of this "violent crime" Kevin speaks of, but I've heard of auto theft. Since that is up the country is obviously spiraling out of control and we must re-elect Trump.

Murderers laying low until 2025 to help Brandon get elected, and then they'll unleash their bloodbath with impunity. Probably.

Not all murderers. Just Black and brown ones. White murderers have a special dispensation to continue shooting up schools and office buildings however frequently they wish.

Scary "surge in crime" story of the day goes to a breathless report on "tourist burglaries" in upscale L.A. neighborhoods by members of organized gangs from Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and other countries down south who entered the US through a visa waiver program. Here's Elon dutifully spreading the word: "And the Biden Administration does nothing"!

More than 900 burglaries have been reported in LA just since January, and brand new LAPD chief Choi (started 3/1) has created a task force to go after the gangs.

And how big of a surge in burglaries does this new crime wave represent? According to the L.A. Times, LAPD reports burglaries in 2024 year-to-date are DOWN 4.3%.

    1. Joseph Harbin

      Actually, that was KNBC television:

"The I-Team found 903 LAPD crime reports in the first 10 weeks of 2024 that recorded residential burglaries, compared with 944 during the first 10 weeks of 2023."

Washington, DC. Kansas City, Memphis, Oakland, Detroit.

Not everywhere. Why do you refuse to acknowledge this? Even in NYC... there was a shooting on the subway last week. Lots of people saw it. Lots more heard about it. Many more read about it. One crime... dozens directly affected.

    1. Justin

Most violent offenses remained elevated in 2023 compared to 2019... Oh never mind. These mostly aren't preventable with our lax gun laws and crazy gangsters running around. During the shooting at the KC super bowl parade, 12 people pulled weapons and 6 actually fired. Now really... why are there dozens of people at a parade armed and ready to kill someone?

I know many people will say don't feed the troll, and I would never bother to engage with him, but I have to laugh because no matter how many times he posts, he never makes a point. I continue to assume it is because people always laugh at him when he tries to, but it is amazing. No matter what he posts there is never a point.

      1. Jasper_in_Boston

It's not so much that he never has a "point" as much as his points are rarely if ever relevant. And this is a good example: by their very nature, national crime statistics don't parse out regional or local differences. That's what makes them national! But his racism obviously renders him uncomfortable with statistical information showing positive news on crime, so, the inevitable "well_akshually."

        1. Gilgit

But is he actually making a point? If someone mentions how shark attacks are used by the press to make people think shark attacks have suddenly increased when their number is the same they've always been, and I reply with a date and location of someone being killed by a shark - have I really made a point?

I remember once he said something along the lines of Democrats being responsible for all crime. I laughed and replied that since Democrats were in office at the local, state, and federal level between 1992 and 2016 when crime was cut in half (or was it cut by 2/3) then Democrats should keep doing what they are doing since they're obviously good at fighting crime.

I don't know what point he is trying to make. I can guess, but he doesn't say. He probably doesn't say because he knows he'll be laughed at. I assume it is some Fox News lies combined with stereotypes about inner cities and liberals all rolled up into one - and therefore Democrats are responsible for every crime. But whatever it is, it is not that national averages mean some areas will have much higher crime rates (something everyone everywhere all at once already knows).

          Cheers

Okay, so the more "illegals" who enter the country, the lower the murder rate becomes? So open the floodgates!
