Republicans turn down Hunter Biden’s offer of public testimony

Rep. James Comer, the Inspector Javert of the House Oversight Committee, wants Hunter Biden to give testimony before his committee. Today Biden agreed, but only if his appearance is public. Comer naturally turned him down.

Naturally? Yes indeed. What use is it to have Biden come in unless Comer can then selectively leak bits and pieces of testimony over the next couple of months? Rep. Jamie Raskin thrashed Comer for refusing a public hearing:

“Let me get this straight,” Raskin said in a statement. “After wailing and moaning for ten months about Hunter Biden and alluding to some vast unproven family conspiracy, after sending Hunter Biden a subpoena to appear and testify, Chairman Comer and the Oversight Republicans now reject his offer to appear before the full Committee and the eyes of the world and to answer any questions that they pose?”

Comer is a lunatic. He goes on Fox News regularly to make endless ridiculous allegations, none of which ever turn out to have anything behind them. Now he's gotten so ridiculous he won't even accept a deal to question Hunter Biden in public. This whole affair is truly one of the most hateful and revolting that Republicans have ever staged.

"This whole affair is truly one of the most hateful and revolting that Republicans have ever staged" YET.

There is no bottom to human behavior, unless it is imposed.

Working online for a time, you may earn at least $928 every day. My best friend's $29,000 story helped me make a decision. But I don't believe it's worth it because it's so true to my ts22 current situation.

Let's not forget that CREW will likely take Comer to court to get any transcripts released, especially if Comer starts speaking on the contents of the transcripts. And they will prevail.

But that will take time. Maybe until after the next election. And in the mean time, Comer's deceptive edits of the testimony would be out there, watering and fertilizing (as BS so often does) the perception of wrongdoing on the part of the President. The media, especially those loyal to TTIFIFG, will lap it up and run it endlessly, maybe with a bland refutation from a no-name Democrat for balance, but that would have to be balanced by five Republicans going on endlessly about the crimes they've invented.

Where the hell is the Democratic Party Publicity Machine when this kind of crap happens? The Republicans continually make fools of themselves, and our guys continually smile their knowing little smiles and say "Look, isn't that silly?"

We should be shouting it from the rooftops. We should be plastering it on billboards 14 feet high and 48 feet wide. We should be buying advertising with recordings of those clowns making fools of themselves, and our guys pointing out how ridiculous they are.

Instead, we have only Kevin making it clear. And hey, I think it's great that Kevin jumped right on it, but seriously--how many people do you suppose read Kevin?

Ugh. Because here's how "shouting it from the rooftops" will work:

Democratic Shout: "Rep. Comer's investigation of Hunter Biden is a fraud! Hunter Biden offered public testimony to refute claims about corruption, and Comer rejected him, because Comer doesn't want the world to see that there is no evidence of Hunter Biden crimes"!

      What the low-information public will hear: "Comer . . . investigat . . . Biden . . . fraud! . . . Biden . . . testimony . . . corruption . . . Comer rejected . . . Biden crimes!"

Comer&Co.'s whole game is to get the public to see/hear/read the phrase "Biden corruption" over and over and over again. Complaining about them doing it only *helps* them do it.

Even here, the problem is that the vast majority of low-engagement voters haven't a clue as to who Comer is, other than maybe "some guy on TV".

That's the other issue. Nobody cares about some backbencher they've never heard of, so even a "Comer is a liar!" strategy is rather pointless. And probably counterproductive, since it would crowd out resources/attentionspace that could be devoted to defeating Trump.

"..., since it would crowd out resources/attentionspace that could be devoted to defeating Trump."

That is why I included "almost half bad as Trump". Use the claims against Comer to attack Trump. It has the advantage the it relates to what happens on Fauxnew.

Raising a ruckus over Comer’s refusal to let Hunter Biden testify in public would be partisan. And the Democratic Party is a nonpartisan organization. They’d be deeply embarrassed by a cheap political ploy designed simply to win elections.

And where is the fucking mainstream media on this?

On the NBC morning TV news, I heard a talking head read a brief report saying, in essence, "Republicans in Congress are seeking to bring President Biden's son Hunter Biden before their Oversight committee. They are trying to determine if President Biden committed an impeachable offense."

      Beautiful.

It is indeed revolting and it is not even half of it. Last week at empty wheel I read what I thought was one of the most horrid government behaviours by high level government officials that I have heard in a very long time and for the life of me I don’t understand why it is not getting more coverage. Basically Trump instructed Barr to use Russian intelligence disinformation to prosecute Hunter Biden and he more than willingly obliged. Now there are a few dots to connect (e.g., what exactly did Trump tell Barr- we have seen the public pronouncements but there is probably more) but most of the facts have already been veritably disclosed.

    1. Mitch Guthman

Basically the Democratic Party’s leadership, the DOJ, and the media has decided to give Trump a pass for any wrongdoing during his time in office except for those things which were big enough and awful enough that they can’t be completely ignored.

I'm curious to see how this farce ends. A Senate impeachment trial would expose Republicans as total bumbling clowns; imagine Amy Klobuchar, Kirsten Gillibrand, Tammy Baldwin or Chris Murphy cross-examining the House managers about the complete absence of evidence of any wrongdoing by the president. MAGA Mike's Republicans will be fighting to avoid having to run the case.

On the other hand a decision not to pursue impeachment would make the House Republican caucus even more of a brawling shitshow than it is already, and destroy any last remaining hope of them retaining the majority. Well Comer and Jordan have made their bed. I hope they enjoy lying in it.

"Comer is a lunatic. He goes on Fox News regularly ..."

That's an understatement. He's there *all the time* and the hosts are, "So Jim, tell us what new Biden corruption you've unearthed since our last interview".
