Sam is back

Why does so much OpenAI drama happen late at night?

I wish I had something insightful to say about this, but all I can do is shake my head. Larry Summers?

Surely the timing of these notices is by design. And Summers is being brought in to convey stability and establishmentarian gravitas.

I needed a good laugh tonight...thanks. (I guess the writers strike is over?) Best Wishes, Traveller

But always remember, it's astounding, time is fleeting
    Madness takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
    I've got to keep control

These are the smartest people in the world. They are developing complex software to revolutionize our economy. And they can't figure out how to get along with each other. I'm not impressed.

If I were an investor and I found that Summers was on the board, I'd sell everything as fast as I could.

The only reason to have that guy on board is to mislead certain people into thinking that what you are doing is OK, because he will stand up and loudly say so, despite the evidence of your own eyes.

His track record speaks for itself.

Boards which are compliant to the owners' wishes rarely lead to good things.

Summers is also on the board at Block, and has "advised" a16z in the past, may still be doing so.

You can find his picture in the phrase dictionary under "failing upwards".

late night is when stoned arguments about theology and philosophy usually happen..

best explanation of the whole soap opera is at Crooked Timber, Henry Farrell's post on What OpenAI shares with Scientology..
