Just to get serious for a moment, there's really no mystery about New Jersey's mystery drones. Most of them are just ordinary airplanes and whatnot, while the rest are . . .
drones.
Right? I mean, what else could they be? Even if, for the sake of discussion, there are lots of them around, they're still drones. So why the freakout?
Exactly what I was thinking. We all knew the day was coming when drones would become nearly ubiquitous.
people don’t like to be spied on. they feel they have a reasonable expectation of privacy in their homes or backyards and so drones are freaking them out. there’s also some anti-China paranoia in there. but I think fundamentally it’s about the violation of personal space. you pay all that money for two acres in North Caldwell and then people are flying over your property.
So airplanes and drones flying past is 'spying'?
You can't shoot someone for looking at your address or peeking over a fence, why should to be able to shoot a drone that's looking for an address?
In some states you can shoot someone for looking over your fence. However, short of that, you can identify a person and yell at them and call the police on them. What do you do about a drone that peeped in your bedroom? It’s violating.
In which states can you shoot someone for looking over your fence?
I haven't heard any reports of peeping Tom drones in this latest round of hysteria.
It's an INVASION!

In the videos you posted, they showed recordings of a few lights in the sky and one of... a drone. Actually it was large enough it could have been a light aircraft. As with all other recordings I've seen, none show drone swarms. None appeared to be over any military bases. Certainly none looked suspicious or dangerous. I did laugh at the guys saying NHIs like everyone everywhere knows what that is.
Can you tell me why you are paying attention to "lights in the sky at night"? I've seen "lights in the sky at night" every night of my life, so until someone actually shows me a swarm - or I should say, a swarm over a military base - I'm going to assume this is just a replay of the 1940s UFO mass hysteria.

So Fox News has been reporting on mysterious drone sightings for several years now. Drum has written in the past about how Fox News stories get picked up by other (or perhaps I should say “real”) news outlets. Why other outlets they pick up the story this time and not previous stories about drone sightings? It may be nothing more than that a typical news outlet has more viewers in New Jersey than in places like Colorado.
Cite please. I have not noticed any such articles on Fox until the current panic.
It's just the GOP's parting and holiday gift to Biden. Not only did he cause 1000 percent inflation in food prices and allow the country to be invaded by millions of terrorists and criminals, now he is also allowing Chinese death ray carrying drones to terrorize New Jersey. And of course, the MSM feels obligated to play along.
The thing that really pings my skepticism are the claims that these things are operating over US Military installations with impunity.
Nothing about that statement concords with anything I know about the US Military. Nothing.
I mean, it could be happening. There are other scenarios - mistaken identification of something in the sky. Or mistaken location. Or just someone mad about something flying over their property. (Bad News - above 500ft above ground level, it's fair game over your property. And below that it isn't necessarily completely restricted)
I assign both of these explanations a higher probability of being accruate than I do the claim of "flying over US Military bases with impunity".
There is a small chance, for instance, that this is a spying/surveillance effort by the Russians or the Chinese, which has caught the US Military a bit flatfooted without good resources to eliminate the spying.
There's also the possibility that they might use such an effort to feed bad intel to an adversary. Which, ahem, very likely happened with the weather balloon before it got shot down.
There are a whole bunch of possibilities
"So why the freakout?"
Fully half the nation including the president-elect are in a freakout mode, that's why.
Yes, Freaks need to freak out. There has been a dearth of freakout opportunities for freaks lately (plenty for the rest of us). Why isn't there a chart of things to freak out about relative to who is in the White House?
My roofing contractor put my new roof up for "roof of the year" (could I make something like this up?). He hired a drone company to shoot video of my roof as part of the award submittal. My then neighbor completely freaked out, accusing the drone of looking in his bedroom window and threatened to get his shotgun and shoot it down. The neighbor was a bit of a conservative good ole boy, and had a couple of his friends over who I suspect egged him on. The good news is he has since left our highly blue state and moved to Arizona. The bad news is I didn't get "roof of the year".
Some of these drones are fixed wing with 10-20' wingspans. My guess is its pranksters working in a coordinated fashion. There are fixed wing drones this big on the market.
According to a WSJ article, a line of about 12 large winged drones flew over Langley Airforce base, I believe in late 2023. Drones were 20' long and flying at 100 mph. The pentagon says they are perplexed. But that is hard to believe. An Airforce aircraft could simply follow the drones to their destination. They have to land or crash eventually.
Let's imagine that the Air Force has aircraft available on Ready 5 - it can launch in 5 minutes. Maybe another 5 to get to target. That's a ten minute window for the drone operator to land the drone and put it under cover, which is probably plenty of time for them.
The military will probably have to adopt new methods and new policies to cope with these overflights.
Unless, of course, they aren't actually happening, and this is why they declare themselves "perplexed".
"So why the freakout?" Because we are a nation full of ignorant and paranoid people. Look who we elected president... again!
Apropos of the subject matter, Oingo Boingo:
People who haven't looked up into the sky are now looking up and are afraid of what they see. Every speck of light is out to get them--stars, meteors, satellites, small planes, large planes, and yes, drones.
Yes, more people play with drones--see America's Got Talent. I wouldn't be surprised if people are trying to set up drone light shows for Christmas and/or New Years. And in a few mischievous teens--and we have a party.
I saw one on Nextdoor yesterday. To me, it looked like a nice picture of Mars. Nextdoor should go back to freaking out over coyote sightings.
Ya know, I am running out of energy to even make fun of all the insanity in the US of A these days. So I’m not going to even try
Why? Because you have to keep the base in a constant state of outrage to keep them in line. That why Trump has darkly hinted that the government knows what is going on and is hiding it from us.
Ahem, if Kevin was *serious* about this he'd get information from people on the ground in New Jersey. Here is a post on Twitter/X (with 3 million views) from a resident of that state - with video proof:

My view is that it's an incomplete explanation because there is no mention of chemtrails controlled by the netupwln domofh lflfs, & ><?
I saw one report that claimed the unidentifiable blurry light blobs were spraying something, so they covered the chemtrails. They always cover the chemtrail angle whenever they can.
Of course they do. They are so canny.
It’s a t-Rump diversion so he can stuff idiots in important positions.
1) I have not seen one photo that convinces me these are drone sightings.
2) Someone used a nine millimeter and wounded a drone that flew back to Homebase, a Walmart that was testing delivery service. He now owes Walmart some money and may have some legal problems.
4) Drones shut down a small airport near the Catskills for a couple of hours. I thought it was illegal to fly drones over restricted air space, and this is something you learn when getting your drone license.
5) The airspace over Wright-Patterson AFB was closed for several hours. The AF should have shot it down if they were not part of a military exercise.
6) I am convinced it is mass hysteria, but the government statements are making things worse. Government spokespeople must stop saying, "We don't know what they are, but we know they are not dangerous." They should stick to "we don't know." Then, they should research and tell the public what they find out. We pay the government enough. Assign a military or civilian department to do the work.
7) When in danger, when in doubt, run in circles, scream, and shout.
This is the best YouTube I have seen on the subject so far: https://youtu.be/MAWCIfs0ER4?si=duc301dHYux-0M-o
Keeping the public in a constant state of panic over imaginary threats is a successful way to elevate your status and pass legislation that few people actually favor.
Remember the made up stories about people eating dogs and cats?
There will be a lot more of this, the idiots demand it.
Ok this piece on Wright-Patterson AFB from CNN contains fairly reliable sourcing, and based on that, I'm willing to change my tune.
It's more like we've reached a tipping point where drone activity is sufficient to get people's attention and consider how it might change how things work. Of course, it's accompanied by a moral panic, because that's how we do things.
