Don’t forget North Korea. Gee, what do North Korea, Hungary and Russia have in common?
What he actually left out is China. Xi can't believe his luck. There's probably nothing higher on his wish list than "destruction of NATO."
It will not have been lost on the Standing Committee in Beijing that the American system of governance and politics is currently incapable of reliably producing logical policies that align with US national interest. The only question for them is how, exactly, to take advantage of this window?
Xi probably doesn't care about NATO.
Hence, not being on this list. China earlier voted against penalties for Russia at the UN, but they've been mostly staying out of the votes lately.
Russia just needs to be a customer; and with its manpower devoted to a war, Chinese workers can spread into Russian satellites more easily. And sucking up North Korea's men as well busies a thorn in China's side.
Some friends are better kept busy, you know?
"Gee, what do North Korea, Hungary and Russia have in common?"
The letter a?
And Belarus
None of them are in Congress.
I could say "none of them ate bacon for breakfast" too, but that doesn't mean anything here. What's your wandering point?
You can judge a person by the company that they keep and who their enemies are.
Republicans supporting Trump:
Senators Lindsay Graham, Josh Hawley, Mike Lee, Roger Marshall
Representatives Mike Johnson, Andy Biggs
Democrats, of course, back Zelenskyy
Are you just counting prominent people? At this point silence can and should be counted as support for Russia. Democrats should be in full resistance mode! Anything less is unacceptable and quite frankly dangerous!
Brazil, China, and India are assuredly pro-Russia. Don't know about Switzerland or the rest of BRICS.
The Insane Clown Posse has taken over.
not sure why Brazil is pro-Putin, but it seems you are right.
Hah!
As for Brazil, large chunks of the Left in the Global South (like Brazil's current President) have a residual distrust the "Imperialist" US and the West and turn a blind eye to Putin's horrific neo-Fascism as a result. Meanwhile, elements of Brazil's right wing finds Putin's neo-Fascism kind of attractive. Fortunately, Brazil is not a major player in international power politics, and culturally it is far more aligned with the West than of the illiberal states, so it's not likely to drift too far or cause very much harm.
Lots of Indians remember with fondness Soviet support for India in its conflict with Pakistan. Fortunately, they share a lot of US apprehensions about China and has increasing human ties with the US, so our relations are overall petty good.
But this just shows how valuable our European and Pacific Allies are. Hope Trump does not piss that away...
"Hope Trump does not piss that away..." He's already started. Democrats need to sweep the 2026 midterms in hopes of reversing some of the damage already done or in the works.
and people wonder why the space aliens do not interface with the human race. Heck, if I could, I would not either. (dog lover)
I keep seeing videos from Hindustani Times pop up on my 'new tab' news page; they are invariably pro-Russian-imperialism*. I find that strange from a formerly colonized nation. The print edition of HT seems to be a straight news operation, the few times I've looked at their site. The disconnect also seems strange.
*You can't truthfully call invading a neighboring sovereign state and claiming to annex its territory anything but imperialism. And of course Indians feel very differently about Pakistani claims to Jammu and Kashmir, or Chinese claims to Indian border areas ....
One can't say Trump is driven by normal notions of popularity, too bad it doesn't amount to more than petty grievance most of the time.
His grievances don’t even make it to petty. They’re -his- grievances, that’s all that matters.
He craves the attention and praise he never received from his father. His eulogy for his late father was all about himself. He's just a sad pathetic little man.
My mother was a model in NYC. She used to tell me of the Trump family. I almost feel sorry for donnie. (almost)
He got the two he cares about.
He wants Xi too.
And if can get Kim, even better.
Viktor Orban said an odd thing the other day about Ukraine being accepted into the EU: "It will destroy us. First of all, it will destroy Hungarian farmers and Hungarian agriculture; secondly, it will destroy the entire Hungarian national economy".
Yet, Viktor is destroying Hungary. The EU didn't trigger the start of Article 7 just because. If Hungary fails simply because Ukraine is accepted into the EU, that should tell Hungarians a lot about Viktor's leadership.
But that scorecard is notable for what's missing: The rest of the world.
Whereas Europe/NATO now understands that they have to go it alone, the other parts of the world still believe they have a chance. Taiwan still believes that if China invades, US will step up. Japan and South Korea still believe the US will intervene if China or North Korea make a move. All of this is fantasy.
You will be shaken down or you will be hung out to dry.
Why this has to be constantly repeated, I don't understand. Trump is an idiot. He only cares about his ego, money, and "winning" the zero-sum game. He has no principles; he'd sell his children for his soul if the Devil would take that deal.
The devil already has his soul.
I find it extremely difficult to remain civil with my co-workers I know voted for Trump. They disgust me at this point. I have lost all respect for people who would vote for a man like Trump.
For us to step up will cost Taiwan dearly. He's made that abundantly clear with what he did to the President of Ukraine yesterday. He's a fucking embarrassment and if as an American you dont think so, so are you.
I think people misunderstand what he means when he says they need to focus on China. He doesn't mean militarily; he's too cowardly. He means economically.
I don't think Taiwan can buy itself protection. I think Trump is too scared of China's size and strength. He doesn't want to be responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans.
" He doesn't want to be responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans."
How many Americans died from COVID due to donnie's "actions or lack thereof"
Like, 600,000+? "thousands" of Americans? Try hundreds of thousands.
That's why he blames China.
As I used to say about the CEO of a company I used to work for, the only reason he wouldn't sell his mother for a nickel is if he thought he could get a dime for her.
Whereas Europe/NATO now understands that they have to go it alone, the other parts of the world still believe they have a chance. Taiwan still believes that if China invades, US will step up. Japan and South Korea still believe the US will intervene if China or North Korea make a move. All of this is fantasy.
.
Good points. I wonder if those realizing the "2.0 alliance reality" (read- zero alliance), will increase trade with China, leaving our only economic ally is Putin.
Trump has just demonstrated, in living color on live TV, that the United States CANNOT BE TRUSTED. And not just while he's in office, but probably for a generation, because the people who voted for him might well vote in another like him.
I mean, if YOU were in charge of another country's policy, would YOU trust the US to live up to its commitments, past or present, at this point?
It's a historical-level disaster. (And meanwhile the media are fussing about Zelenskyy's clothes, as though he hasn't been wearing the same thing for years, or they didn't see what Melon was wearing while his kid picked his nose and wiped it on the Resolute Desk.)
At this point, when the bottom drops out from under the MAGAts, I'm not even gonna listen to the screams as they fall.
Thanks again, Republicans! Great job!
What Zelensky was wearing was so irrelevant as to be ridiculous to even ask about it. But leave it up to M.T. Greenes boyfriend Brian Glenn to ask just a stupid question. Of course it was prompted by the Orange turd and his giant ego. Brian Glenn is the White House Correspondent for Real America's Voice. That should tell you how serious the question was.
But all his toadies thought it was perfect because he told them it was, and he showed them the script Putin gave him. See, he followed it perfectly.

It's very telling that Vance did as much of the talking, if not most of it before Trump went on his yelling rant. If Democrats gain cotroll of both houses they should impreach and convict both of those clowns. 🤞it becomes a reality. Third impeachment would break his record! It is third right? lol. Oi!
They would need two-thirds of the Senate to convict. That isn't happening, no matter how many fingers are crossed.
If it does go really bad he might even have his base clamoring for blood. I know its a long shot, but if anyone can undo his appeal its Donald Trump himself. He never knows when to shut up. His meeting with Zelensky is a good example.
The AfD won all of the former East Germany other than of course around Berlin and part of Leipzig. It did not win anywhere else other than one spot in North Rhine-Westphalia
Discuss.
Discuss.
The Germans bungled reunification. In an attempt to pander to the residents (voters) of the former DDR, they took none of the steps needed to necessary to actually solve its problems, preferring to let them fester and become entrenched. Much the same is true of Hungary.
To me, the interesting case is Poland. It did choose most of the important policies. This was reflected in its economic statistics, which initially suffered relative to other Soviet bloc states, but fairly quickly made it the strongest economy in Eastern Europe. The rise of Prawo i Sprawiedliwosc is complicated, but it's not a surprise to me that Poland is the only country, so far, to eject the illiberal far right from government.
Thanks for those points. If you have a good media source for keeping up to date on Poland, I'd like a pointer to it. Does the New York Times have good coverage?
I distinctly remember the hair raising on the back of my neck in 1990, after George H stated with regard to the invasion of Kuwait, that "this will not stand". In my mind, and most people, it was an impossibility that the President of the US would make such a definitive statement without the plan to back it up. My reaction was the inevitability that we would likely be going to war in the middle east.
With the Orange Clown President who spews a continuous flow of bull shit, lies, and hate from his fat pie hole and orange Tweeting fingers, his word, the word of the US, any commitments made by the US, and any treaty or agreement signed by the US is subject to negation at any time, for any reason.
Who the hell is going to trust the US and the words of the President of the US again? We ("they") elected this fucker twice, and even when he leaves office (in 2028??) Trumpism will be the continuing stench left on one of the major political parties in the US. If we are lucky, it will take decades for this stench to wear off (if it ever does).
It's hard to get out that orange stain.
If we are unlucky, e.g. the US experiences stagflation from ill-advised tariffs and oppressive labor policies, Trumpism could dissipate pretty quickly. Economic bad luck --> political good luck
The American fascist party in power supports him in absolutely lockstep.
Zelenskyy met with Starmer today and will be received by King Charles tomorrow. Doesn't change anything, and certainly Mango Mussolini doesn't give a shit what the Brits or Europeans do and say, but he is probably livid that Zelenskyy gets to meet the King before he does. He still thinks the King is actually in charge of the government in the UK.
Hey you forgot Luxembourg!
I have dual citizenship with Luxembourg, but I'm beginning to worry that I may not even be allowed to leave the US, say for instance bird flu reaches Covid levels and Trump/RFK ignore it.
You can add Slovakia to the Tr*mp side.
Before Trump's first election, the odds of a future American President being the puppet of the Russian dictator were probably as close to zero as a number could be.
But here we are, the US President is very clearly and inarguably acting as a subject of the Russian dictator.
This might still seem inconceivable, but there just cant be any serious debate on this at this point.
You don't need to take the foreign service exam to know you make sure everything is nailed down first and then invite foreign leader of the White House to sign, not negotiate before giving that leader the pen. The reality was there was no deal, not one that Zelinsky was ready to agree to despite what a bunch of fake news suggested beforehand.
If getting something like rare earth minerals was that important to the Administration, some sort of agreement could have been worked out with the Ukranians and Russians, some sort peace keeping force and demilitarized zone established in return for security guarantees and lifting of sanctions. Ukraine could join the EU but not NATO. So a deal was there to be made and a good one to end the war. That it wasn't made by the so-called great dealmaker of all time is more reflection on him and his Administration's inept diplomacy and so the war will continue with Europe filling in for the U.S. as far as aid goes. There will b no peace prize for Trump, no reduction in gas prices nor food so long as it does continue.
".. is more reflection on him and his Administration's inept diplomacy.."
Not really. What you describe is not what Putin wants and thinks he can get, and on the issue of Ukraine Trump's position is just Putin's position (with minor modifications for US public consumption).
NOTE: Once the convicted felon drops all military support for Ukraine, that moots US's leverage over Ukraine. Zero mineral rights, zero say in a peace deal, and zero possibility of a Nobel Peace Prize.
Rubio's probably in his ear explaining all the downsides to dropping support.
In principle he can try to lean on Europe to stop it. Maybe a bridge-too-far for him, but maybe not.
I don't believe he listens to Rubio about anything. He got Rubio to State so he can have a toadier senator, with also opportunities to humiliate him, rather than give Rubio actual position of influence.
