Donald Trump doesn't know what mifepristone is:
Reporter: Would you direct your fda to revoke access to Mifepristone
Trump: You could do things that would supplement. Absolutely. And those things are pretty open and humane… pic.twitter.com/963ovR6MRR

It's hard to believe, but Trump is getting more ignorant over time. Or maybe his memory is getting worse.
This came during the same press conference where he refused to say how he planned to vote on Florida's initiative to overturn its 6-week abortion ban. What a coward. My guess is that he'll stay silent on the initiative all the way to Election Day, at which point he'll announce that he voted against it. That will be too late to do him any harm with moderates and will assure evangelicals that he's still on their side.
Hey, at least he took questions while Harris was dodging them. That's the important thing, not that he is a fucking moron.
[Edit: That said, the is the Court, not POTUS or the FDA or pharmacology experts, that is going to decide which drugs are legal, safe, and effective. So what difference does it make?]
yeah, like he's some big hero
he took questions because the polls were pointing toward our big orange boy spending time in front of a j6 federal jury with no compliant AG there to run interference
i'd also make the argument that lying is just another way of dodging the question
Yes, thank our lucky stars that nine lawyers, at least two of whom have openly authoritarian / corporatist agendas, will make the scientific and medical judgments concerning what chemicals are clinically safe and effective. We are SAVED from the tyranny of those egghead "scientists" and "doctors" from those "medical schools"!
+1
"Yes, thank our lucky stars that nine lawyers"
Let's be clear: it's going to be at most 6 of them, not 9.
He -took- questions. He didn't -answer- questions. Try that as a Dem, and you're gonna get pilloried.
????????????????????
Plus, after he completely dodged the mifepristone question there was absolutely no attempt to press him on it and the rest of the questions were complete softballs and/or irrelevant bullshit. These so-called "journalists" should be ashamed of themselves. Lawrence O'Donnell was just livid at this last night. (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/lawrence-odonnell-media-trump-2016-all-over-again_n_66b5a242e4b05d0bc28147ee)
You're absolutely right -- he held a "press conference", answered virtually nothing, but did allow the reporters there to show their stupid asses to the public once again.
Pretty sure it’s the FDA that decides what drugs are safe and effective. And Trump’s FDA, if we do live in the worst timeline and he gets to have another one, will withdraw its approval of mifepristone fairly quickly, regardless of whether Cheeto Benito knows what it is.
I'm pretty sure Project 2025 will just abolish the FDA let states do whatever they want. Chemotherapy for New Yorkers with cancer, laetrile for Floridians! What could go wrong?
it will be trump's fda. so yeah it will be potus and the fda that decides likely acting before scotus takes it up again. remember project 2025.
kevin asks if trump is becoming more ignorant. simple answer he's always been dumber than a box of rocks and the press keeps treating him as if he's normal.
is it? Wouldn't answering the questions honestly be the important thing? Which to my knowledge has never happened with Trump. Normalizing his dishonesty is not doing anyone any good.
Trump did this appearance for the sole purpose of using the media and the know-nothings like NotCynical to repeat this talking point.
"Please ignore my lies and inability to answer any questions and repeat my new propaganda for me! "
And the sheep follow along....
Oh don't worry, it doesn't matter, abortion is only a "small issue" anyway, and "doesn't matter." He said so! So it's so.
OF COURSE he doesn't know what it is, much less what the implications of access are. It's entirely possible he didn't immediately know what "fda" means, although probably in context he at least knew more or less what the question was about.
The guy doesn't DO policy. He lets his hirelings do policy -- eg Project 2025. He does vengeance and grifting and big WWE-style showpieces.
And to be fair, that's why many -- probably most -- of his supporters like him. He's entertaining, he's ostentatiously wealthy, and he "hurts the people who deserve to be hurt." The fact that the policies his administration would enact would screw them over as hard as anyone neither enters their minds nor is something they would ever accept he was responsible for.
I think Kamala needs to start hounding him on his abortion positions, and continue to remind everyone that he killed Row V Wade with his 3 SCOTUS appointees, and the MAGA GOP will ban it nationwide if he wins.
Love the "Trump Takes Questions as Harris Dodges" banner on Faux News, who purportedly provides "Fair and Balanced" news, at least until the hate parade begins at 7:00pm with Laura Ingraham.
yeah, and the 72 pt headlines saying trump agrees to the abc debate somehow never get around to the fact that the ground rules haven't been agreed to, meaning there's no actual agreement to have this debate
so if harris declines after all the rules are changed to the benefit of the trump campaign, the press will loudly proclaim that harris is backing out
Pretty sure there are some ground rules. No audience. The name of the moderator(s). This is pretty much all that's needed, isn't it?
just enough wiggle room for them to include an audience then blame it on harris if she declines
The debate will probably be held without a live audience, but the exact format and ground rules are still being determined, the people said.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/08/business/media/trump-harris-abc-debate.html
No debate should have an audience. Atleast not a political one. A debate with an audience is a political rally. Fuck the networks and their ratings.
To be fair, at a lot of "town hall" style debates in the past, members of the audience have frequently asked far better, more informed questions than the so-called professional journalists hosting the thing.
They can be. Depending on the audience. Which depends on what network is hosting it I would guess. But they all tend to devolve into a pep rally for either or both candidates if there's an audience to work off of. Which Trump knows how to do. It's the only thing he knows how to do.
"youmane"
"the votes are taking right now as we speak"
His brain is fried.
Kevin, you see, if someone doesn’t keep feeding quarters into the Trumpbot 2024 it stops functioning reliably…
The content of Trump's response makes no sense. In real time, I believed he had no idea what he was talking about. Either he didn't hear the question or he doesn't know what Mifepristone is.
But now he's on the record and that will help Kamala win the election.
was the impromptu newsconference at maralago trump's biden debate performance?
He's latched on to the word "humane" as the way to thread the needle on abortion, I think.
I still want to know how many abortions Trump has paid for. Howard Stern once asked him that, and Trump just gave a smile.
If we learned nothing else from 2016 and trump's presidency, it's that half of the American people do NOT care one tiny bit about intellect and/or the lack thereof. OR more than half of the American people are totally unaware when they are being spoken to by an ignorant fool who just makes shit up.
Let me know when you figure out which of these is worse.
Not surprising. What news did you think he was watching all this time, himself or everything else?
Whenever he doesn't know what he's talking about (which is often) he sounds like a 4th grader giving an oral book report on a book he hasn't read.
????????????
Purest stammering arglebargle, barely a step away from infant babbling. Huck Finn is both more coherent and more plausible coming up with spontaneous whoppers. But poor Huck never had those intrepid NYT newshounds ready to call it an "interesting dance."
Tim Walz would drive you to a clinic without asking why.
The big question is what did Trump think Mifepristone is? His answer seems to indicate he really doesn't know. This time his faked responce really wasn't that convincing.
