Trump yet again accuses Biden of drug use

MAGAland is obsessed with the idea that White House puppeteers are going to drag Joe Biden's listless body to Atlanta next week and then prop him up just before the CNN debate and shoot him full of meth or Adderall or something. Then they'll point to the stage and say "Go get 'em, boy," all the while praying they gave him a dose big enough to keep him standing for 90 minutes.

This schtick originated on Fox News after Biden's State of the Union address. Biden's performance was so good that even the Foxies couldn't quite manage to pretend he was the doddering old man they pretend he is, so they started desperately looking around for some way to save face. Ari Fleischer said Biden was "amped up." Sean Hannity upped the ante to "jacked up" and "over-caffeinated." Ronny Jackson said "they overmedicated him!" Later on Trump joined in, suggesting Biden had been high on cocaine.

This was all invented literally out of nothing, but the Trumpies had to supply some explanation for why Biden wasn't the comatose old man they'd been trashing for the past couple of years.

Now, of course, Trump is realizing at the last minute that Biden will once again be perfectly normal when he enters the debate stage next week. He might even win! So how can Trump explain losing to a feeble octogenarian? The best lie is one you repeat so many times that everyone starts to believe it, so he's going back to the well and explicitly accusing Biden of using drugs.

And why not? This bilge seems to work. His fans hoot and holler over it, the fence-sitters take it as just a harmless gag, and the press doesn't even bother reporting it anymore. What's to lose?

Not projecting, per se. That implies simple ego defense. He's inoculating himself against the same charge. In all his previous debates he behaved as if he was on drugs. I remember once incident a white chunk of something shooting out of his nose.

      1. Martin Stett

Biden announces he'll drop the evening of the debate and invites all other participants (including moderators) to do the same.

For Biden my guess is elevated levels of Dr. Pepper.

There have been accusations from people who worked with Trump on The Apprentice that he takes — snorts — Adderall which is why he sometimes sniffs so much and stays up so late hyperactively posting on Truthless Social. Meanwhile Biden is the same as he has always been. Personally I don’t know how he holds up under all the pressure he has had, not only in politics but also in his private life. Someone in the media (can’t remember who) recently commented that it seems like Republicans are actively trying to drive Hunter to relapse or even commit suicide which has crossed my mind.

"This was all invented literally out of nothing"

Not nothing. It's pure projection. Trump has been hopped up on Adderall for years. Whatever they accuse others of is what they're doing. Depend on it.

  2. kenalovell

all the while praying they gave him a dose big enough to keep him standing for 90 minutes.

Not true, lib! Why do you think they have two commercial breaks, eh? EH???

    1. Bardi

Too funny. Two breaks in 90 minutes, wow! Thank you.

When one continues to compare oneself to an eighty year-old man, and one comes up short, a sane individual might think one is doing something wrong.

    2. zic

because I know from personal experience that old people have smaller bladders and need to pee frequently so that they don't need to wear diapers.

Course, we already know that Trump wears them. But it's still considerate to offer a restroom/drink of water break.

  3. Justin

I really wish trump would just, you know, stop breathing. Permanently. There really is nothing else to say. And to all my neighbors and coworkers who think he’s awesome, I wish the same. ASAP!

    I know, I’m a terrible person.

      1. iamr4man

You can bet that if Trump were to die his supporters would blame BidenObamadeepstate etc. and other conspiracy theories you couldn’t concoct with your wildest imagination.

        1. zic

          I remain unconvinced.

There is no obvious heir to Trump's loyalty with the possible exception of the masked marvels being Q.

    1. Salamander

I find myself in agreement. Be interesting to see if the Republican Party would totally fall apart, or promote a New Messiah (who?), ... or start to go sane.

Although, sadly, my money is not on that last alternative.

      1. bethby30

The only way they will come back to some semblance of normality — as if Bush, Cheney and Rummy were moderate — is for Republicans to lose badly. North Carolina is a 50-50 state and the Republican candidates for governor is so crazy and openly misogynistic — he has publicly blamed women for needed abortions because they didn’t keep their skirts down — the NC is really in play. It helps that there is new, energetic leadership for the NC Democratic Party.

        1. jte21

"he has publicly blamed women for needed abortions because they didn’t keep their skirts down"

And that's one of his slightly *less* controversial utterances. You should hear what he thinks about Jews and gay people. He's a goddamn Nazi who happens to also be Black.

    2. Heysus

I think if we all pick a day and focus on the end of his breathing, at the same time, with great intensity, it might happen. We can always hope.

    3. Martin Stett

I know. Or take off to some place without an extradition treaty just before he serves a sentence.

But I really would like to see him grow into an old man in a rented room watching old tapes of The Apprentice on a pee-stained laze-boy.

  4. D_Ohrk_E1

I can totally see Biden responding to Trump on the stage with something like, "America, this man is all about cruelty. He talks down to everyone who won't kneel before him. He denigrated gold star families and their fallen, including John McCain, a war hero. He separated migrant families and toddlers got lost in the system. He took control of women's bodies away from them and forced them to suffer to the point of death before they could get a life-saving abortion. Jesus never told his disciples to be cruel; he told them to turn to them the other cheek."

And Trump will be unable to resist responding with vicious personal attacks.

Biden could then pull the ultimate stunt. Looking into the camera, he addresses viewers, "My fellow Americans, I'm sorry but I can't let this cruelty spread like a virus. America, if you want to know more about our positions go to joebiden.com and read about our goals for the next administration. Good night, and God bless all of us, even Donald." Then he walks away from the stage.

    1. tango

Or, if the Supreme Court rules in time about presidential immunity for "official acts" he could just kill him on stage. Not advocating that, mind you. I favor a massive hear attack that leaves him incapacitated and mostly unable to speak before doing him in in a few months, scrambling GOP calculus on the election.

      1. D_Ohrk_E1

Either way, I think Biden could bring it up to let Trump resolve his cognitive dissonance in front of America.

"By the way Donald, your lawyers argued that POTUS could kill anyone and he would be protected by the Constitution. Surely you didn't want SCOTUS to give me the power to have you (air quotes) removed, did you? It would be a shame if something were to happen to you, don't you think?"

      2. Anandakos

Why not? History is bloody with people who should have been shot before they turned the power of the State on others.

    2. ProgressOne

I'll add that if the race was not so close, Biden shouldn't even debate Trump. Trump is simply not a respectable American. He is corrupt, endlessly cruel, and he dupes millions of Americans into believing his malignant lies. He has significantly harmed the USA as a nation.

      1. jte21

All that is surely true, but as I observed here the other day, if Biden had declined the debate, it would be perceived as proof positive that he's not mentally capable.

  5. painedumonde

During this debate, Biden should take the time to demand evidence and when he's given none and just McCarthistic vague accusations - slam Trump and hard. This is his chance to personally burn him to the ground. He's been convicted over and over, he's attacked the Constitution, he's assisted with stealing the rights of others, he's watched as a virus washed over the country and suggested wishes and witch doctoring, he's attacked Biden's family - they say it wasn't personal, it's just business. Time to show this country that it IS personal.

    1. Cycledoc

Part of the problem is that he hasn’t been convicted over and over. That he illegally stored top secret documents in his toilet is true. That he plotted and advocated the violent overthrow of an election and our democracy on TV, in texts, in emails, in recorded phone calls and in front of the capital building is also obviously true. The scandal is that our justice system has failed to convict this guy on anything but a relatively minor supression of his sexual affairs. Our congress is ineffectual and literally owned by special monied interests and our legal system crippled by bribery at the highest levels, extreme politicization and incompetence. Not the picture of a healthy democracy.

Brazil’s Supreme Court handled a similar attempt in 6 months. Our Supreme Court is apparently on someone’s payroll and MIA. Never thought I’d ever say this.

      1. jte21

In the one felony case that's gone to trial, he's been convicted and may face jail time. The other cases, from the stolen documents, to Jan 6, to electoral fraud in Georgia, are still pending. So he hasn't been acquitted, it's just that he's successfully gummed up the process with motions and appeals (and at least one corrupt judge) because he can hire high-priced lawyers to do that kind of thing. If and when he actually has to face juries in those cases, he's fucked.

The problem isn't so much Trump as it is the millions of Americans who look at so much crime and think it represents good leadership/martyrdom.

  6. Honeyboy Wilson

With Trump, every accusation is a confession. Several medical professionals say he now presents as somebody who's hooked on Adderall. We'll know soon enough, since he must take a drug test as part of his pre-sentencing process and it will surely leak to the press.

    1. Salamander

A drug test? When will this happen? Please, make it before the debate! Or even, just after, in time to see if he was jacked up then.

  7. Jimm

First, neither of those elderly men would dare be taking cocaine or any serious euphoriant upper, the chance of death would be too great.

Second, I honestly wouldn't advise either to take Adderall either, which is not that far removed from meth (just cleaner and more consistently dosed), but rumors are out there Trump is a regular user.

Third, that leaves coffee/caffeine, which for an elderly man who doesn't drink much, will certainly pump you up a little bit, but that alone wouldn't explain Biden's SOTU beatdown of the Republicans.

So that leaves the simpler explanation, which is that Biden can perform when he wants to, but isn't naturally inclined to do it all the time, because he doesn't feel he needs to impress or persuade people every moment of the day (on camera or not), and doesn't crave attention, while Trump is a pompous, narcissistic egomaniac who seemingly always craves attention and wants to perform "perfectly" to his followers (at least on camera and at rallies), where he can bask in their cheers and adulation.

So how do I expect the debate to go? Biden will be prepared and fired up for the match up, bringing his A game, and Trump will not be able to remain focused and ramble when he's not throwing insults and otherwise being a pompous jackass, Biden wins hands down and The Donald and his followers are humiliated for a few days, then forget about it and get back to the cocaine defamation (just like Trump knew the late votes in the election would go Biden's way, and fully prepared to play the electoral fraud card the entire time, but still was humiliated for a little while before earnestly ramping that up).

It wouldn't be a bad bet either that Trump doesn't show up, he's the epitome of a sore loser, to the point he would potentially quit a competition before it starts if he fears losing.

    1. roboto

"So that leaves the simpler explanation, which is that Biden can perform when he wants to, but isn't naturally inclined to do it all the time, "

About 30% of Americans agree with this. Biden is often barely audible, mumbles and is sometimes confused *except* when giving the State of the Union of Address where he came out like a barking mad dog.

Of course he was on a drug, as he will be next week.

      1. Joel

LOL! About 30% of Americans agree with this. Those of us who have seen and heard Biden outside of the right-wing media bubble see a thoughtful, measured and mature leader.

        Smarter trolls, please.

        1. roboto

In March, an ABC poll showed 86% of Americans thought Biden was too old to serve a second term. This is obvious to everyone except progressives.

    2. jte21

As you point out, his move, even if he loses badly, is just to pretend he won. So, yes, I imagine he'll get his bufoonish ass handed to him, and will be strutting around the next day claiming he "mopped the floor" with Biden, and all the MAGA outlets will claim he won and nothing will pop the bubble.

      He's a cult leader, not a politician.

  8. Dana Decker

National Inquirer level tabloid scuttlebutt which is accepted by the audience because they want to hear a tale about Biden being a messed up guy. Doesn't matter if it's true or false. Plus, naughty-boy Trump gets to say the word "ass" and paint an image of an incapacitated Biden.

  9. ruralhobo

The SOTU proved that Biden can read a speech written by someone else off a teleprompter. It proved nothing at all about his capacity to debate. Or, for that matter, about his possession of other qualities necessary for his office. I'm not saying he'll debate badly. Just that his supporters should stop pointing to SOTU as proof of his cognitive abilities.

        1. iamr4man

It’s true that Biden doesn’t ask the incredibly intelligent questions like ‘what would you do if you were on a sinking battery powered boat and there were sharks in the water would it be better to stay on the boat and get (somehow) electrocuted or jump far enough away to not get electrocuted but get eaten by the sharks?’
But then, Biden doesn’t have the massive genetically transferred intelligence of a relative who taught at M.I.T. like Trump does, and his off the cuff non teleprompter speaking is far more mundane.

        2. KenSchulz

And neither debating nor off the cuff answers have much of anything to do with executing the office of the Presidency. That is about choosing competent, knowledgable appointees and advisers, making thoughtful decisions, negotiating compromises, and much more. TFG has none of the requisite skills and abilities. Biden has been remarkably effective in furthering his agenda despite a divided Congress. An easy choice even if TFG weren’t a willfully ignorant, dangerously unstable bundle of psychopathologies.

    1. Salamander

Oh, you clearly didn't watch the SotU, where Biden took on the shrieking trolls and maganuts in real time and off the cuff, and left them scowling. Was that on the "teleprompter"? How did they get Empty Greenie to "read" her parts?

  10. Cycledoc

This guy’s defense is always to accuse his opponent of what he himself is guilty.

The choice for the leader of the “free” world is 78 year old surrender to Putin sociopath/psychopath and an 81 year old who has done a fairly good job the last four years. Both are the oldest ever to run for President.

Neither should be running but the choice is clear. (I’m 83 and know)

  11. ConradsGhost

This is going to be the ugliest Presidential election in modern American history. You might have to go back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries for comparison, when the slander and character assassination were remarkably aggressive and vicious. What's certain is that the agents of chaos are locked and loaded and ready to burn the house down unless they get their way (which is endgame for a functional democracy). We are indeed in deep doodoo.

  12. Salamander

Well, the Convicted Felon is continuing to build up excuses for why he failed so spectacularly in next Thursday's debate. UNFAIR! Chemical enhancement! Biden on drugs!

The rage will build until around Wednesday, or maybe even Thursday itself, when the Felon will declare that everything is so obviously UNFAIR TO ME! that there's no point in participating.

In other words, he will chicken out.

  13. cld

Magical thinking is the only thinking MAGAland understands.

It's the only kind of thinking that ever explains anything!

  14. kenalovell

Trump made a stupid joke about illegal immigrants forming a TV wrestling team to take on Americans. The mindless chooks in the American media cackled in excitement and made it a big story.

The media's obsession with reporting everything Trump says and does as if it's newsworthy and important, crowding out discussion of actual politics, has been the single biggest reason for his persistent popularity.

  15. mudwall jackson

ronnie jackson or is it ronnie johnson? either way what a joke considering what was going on in the white house during trump's tenure.

  16. Jim Carey

    "What's to lose?"

Freedom? The ability to make decisions for oneself in lieu of following orders from an authoritarian autocracy? Civilization? Our species' survival?

    Besides that, I guess nothing.

  17. NealB

Raises the question of why Biden is not promising to deliver more money for the rest of us. There's probably enough votes he could get from anti-Israel progressives (alone) that would cave in a minute if they believed Biden was going to get more money in their pockets so they can buy a house or afford to raise children. Worthwhile enterprise. More free money to everyone that votes for you!! Worked last time.

  18. bouncing_b

The final Supreme Court decisions will be out Thursday. Three huge ones:
    - Chevron (judicial deference to federal agency experts)
    - presidential immunity
    - January 6th rioters
    And emergency room abortion, …

That should give them something to talk about. Betcha Biden will be well-prepared.

And probably John Roberts will be glad the debates might push the decisions below the fold.

  19. Joseph Harbin

Let me see if I got this right.

Biden is in the grip of dementia, an old and doddering man who has lost all his faculties. This is plain for everyone in the country to see, day in, day out.

There was this time, though, when our feeble president turned into a powerhouse of a figure, giving an energetic and cogent address to both houses of Congress at the State of the Union.

The trick then was a miraculous drug. There is no other way to explain it. Joe Biden had to be under the influence of this drug or he would never have been able to perform with the vigor we all saw earlier this year.

It all seems to make sense now. Of course, the president used a performance-enhancing drug and needs to be tested before this week's debate, or Donald Trump doesn't have a fair and square chance to win.

The one part I'm having trouble with is this. If the president of the United States has access to a drug that gives him these supposed superpowers, why has he used the drug once and only once, and not every day?

    1. iamr4man

This is an excellent point. My father died of Alzheimer’s. In the end, he couldn’t remember his wife of 65 years or any of us. If there were a drug that could have brought him back to us for even one hour we would have gladly given it to him. Sure wish such a drug actually existed.

  20. sdean7855

Yes it's projection, but it's more than that: a sort of evil Tinkerbell wish-fulfillment. The Right has long done this. It KNOWS it's right and righteous and the left MUST be at best deluded and at worst evil if not Satanic, so the proof of this MUST be there somewhere True believer in a Ptolemaic 'conservative' righteousness. It's 'pounding on the table' but beyond that in insensate delusion. The Right is like the dwarves in Lewis's The Last Battle: they have departed from reality and living an unfun house maze of distorted mirrors.

  21. sonofthereturnofaptidude

There have been many allusions in the press to the Nixon/Kennedy debate, and every one that I read was either wrong, incomplete or both. That debate was not decisive, it later proved, although the press continues to treat it as if it was. A good performance in a debate is helpful, not decisive, and that goes for the upcoming debate, too. I think Trump is going to blow it. But a bad performance by Trump in this one won't help him with independents and undecided voters; it's only one factor among many.

  22. kaleberg

It's not invented out of nothing. What do you think Trump is on? I'm guessing adrenochrome.

It's like The Steal. The Republicans tried to steal the election, so they accused the Democrats of stealing the election. It makes you wonder if there are any legitimately elected Republicans anywhere. If a Republican accuses a Democrat of something nefarious, odds are it is something they are doing and using the accusations as cover.
