Web vs. print: A mini case study

Josh Marshall annotates the New York Times for us:

Now compare this to the print edition:

In the print edition, there's only one front page piece about the special counsel's report. It occupies less than 10% of the A1 real estate. It's not the top story. There's no accompanying art. And the headline is pretty low key.

This is typical. The print edition reflects the honest judgment of the editorial staff. The web edition—which is relatively independent—is clickbait designed to compete with cable shouters. Nor is this unique to the Times. If all you read is the print edition of a metro daily, your sense of the news will be completely different from someone who's a digital native or TV junkie.

This is why I read the NY Post. It’s hilarious!

Two migrants were collared for a rash of moped raids where they snatched jewelry from unsuspecting New Yorkers, law enforcement sources said – as the number of scooter-borne robberies explodes citywide.

The NYPD is hunting the young gunman — who police sources say is believed to be a migrant — suspected of shooting an innocent tourist and firing at a cop during a botched robbery in Times Square.

A self-described Palestinian migrant from northern Africa stole a pro-Israel flag from a Long Island porch — then pummeled the homeowner who tried to stop him in a wild caught-on-video attack, officials said. Lehbeib, 26, allegedly stole the flag — which declared “In This Home We Stand with Israel — from Aleksandr Binyaminov’s porch, cops said.

Newly released footage shows the moments before a group of migrants attacked and kicked a pair of NYPD cops in Times Square with separate cameras offering different angles of the violent clash. Police initially demanded the group disperse on the night of Jan. 27 before one uniformed officer suddenly grabbed migrant Yohenry Brito as he pushed a baby stroller carrying his belongings, the footage shows.

That’s silly. The Post has an agenda. I’m simply giving you a warning. It is quite funny though. So easy to spot. And yet it’s effective because Americans are fucking idiots. People wonder why I don’t give a damn. Here’s why! 😂 hilarious.

So in the last sentence you point out the police started the confrontation, turned it physical, and they probably deserved the beat-down you spent the previous sentence talking about.

One of the reasons I cancelled the on line NYT after so many years . Click bait for sure and unfortunately, WaPo is next. Their click bait is even worse.

    Exactly.

    Solution: don't read the Times.

I've seen the unhinged BS they let run free under their editorial page, enough of which that I know they will never see a dime from me.
